As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled about the latest 7.25 update for Final Fantasy 14, introducing the Occult Crescent, new weapons, and armor sets. However, it’s disappointing to learn that there seems to be an issue with this new equipment not fitting certain races appropriately. Regrettably, this is yet another challenge faced by specific playable races in Final Fantasy 14 at present.
In the world of Final Fantasy 14, the range of playable races has grown progressively over time, welcoming Viera and Hrothgar during the Shadowbringers expansion, followed by male Viera and female Hrothgar at later stages. While these new races have been embraced by many players, they come with certain constraints, particularly in terms of how gear functions within the game. Early on, fans voiced worries that a new Berserker helmet might not be visible on Hrothgar and Viera, and more recent concerns have surfaced regarding gear from the 7.25 update.
Player Mogrymilian, from Final Fantasy 14, has highlighted an issue with their Hrothgar character and the latest armor in the game. Unlike before where both Hrothgar and Viera characters had problems with many hats and headpieces not being visible, this time it’s about how the headgear “sits” on the character. In the shared screenshot, it is evident that the new Arcanaut’s Sugarloaf Hat of Casting appears to float above their character’s head. The hat only makes contact with one side at its very edge, and to add to the problem, the hat seems to pass through their hairstyle. In their post, Mogrymilian mentions they are considering using a Fantasia to switch their race because of the persistent cosmetic issues with Hrothgar in the game.
Final Fantasy 14 Players Are Tired of Cosmetic Limitations
Unfortunately, there continues to be issues with certain races not being able to wear headgear in “Final Fantasy 14”. This is because the unique shapes of Viera and Hrothgar heads, along with their ears, don’t align well with the existing equipment meshes for other races. Consequently, adjustments to the equipment design are necessary to ensure a proper fit on these characters. However, it’s worth noting that floating hats have been an issue in the past with other races as well, such as Miqo’te. The apparent floating appears to be primarily a compatibility problem between the equipment and available hairstyles within the game.
After spending such a considerable amount of time in Final Fantasy 14, fans find it disheartening that certain items are still unavailable for characters like Viera and Hrothgar. Some have suggested that modders have managed to address this issue, leaving many wondering why Square Enix hasn’t followed suit. Since Yoshi-P mentioned that creating new races is challenging, particularly female Hrothgar who might be the final playable race addition, some fans remain optimistic that the team may reconsider and adjust some hats so they can be used by all character types. However, whether or not this will happen remains to be determined.
