Summary
- Netflix reportedly planning two-volume release for Stranger Things Season 5 in Oct and Nov 2025
- Fans unhappy with release confusion; official confirmation still pending
- Director Shawn Levy is making format changes; new directors for episodes 3 & 4
With each passing day, week, and month, there’s still no definite release date for the much-awaited fifth season of Stranger Things. However, a recent speculation hinted at the possibility of the supernatural/horror show being split into three parts by the streaming platform Netflix. Yet, it appears that this plan has been reportedly abandoned by the network.
It’s going to have eight episodes and it’s set in autumn 1987, approximately six months after Season 4. The original cast, including Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven, Finn Wolfhard as Mike Wheeler, Noah Schnapp as Will Byers, Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin Henderson, Caleb McLaughlin as Lucas Sinclair, Sadie Sink as Max Mayfield, Natalia Dyer as Nancy Wheeler, Charlie Heaton as Jonathan Byers, and the iconic duo Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers and David Harbour as Jim Hopper, will be back for this emotional farewell season.
Newcomer Linda Hamilton, famous for her role in the Terminator series, has joined the cast as a new, enigmatic character. As fans speculate about when the final season might air, it’s been reported that the release strategy has experienced some alterations.
Stranger Things Season 5 Release Date Still up in the Air as Netflix Reportedly Bins Three-Volume Split

According to What’s On Netflix, it appears that the upcoming final season of Stranger Things will be divided into two volumes instead of three as previously speculated. The fifth and final season is now expected to air in October and November this year, but some fans may feel disappointed because this means the release has been delayed a bit longer, especially since there hasn’t been much communication about the situation from Stranger Things’ official social media accounts.
At this point, Netflix hasn’t definitively stated if “Stranger Things” season 5 will consist of two or three parts. For now, the information is being treated with some skepticism, but fans should have more concrete details on May 31st during Netflix’s Tudum event. This gathering is expected to share updates on shows like “Emily in Paris,” “Squid Game” season 3, and possibly the release dates for “Stranger Things” season 5 as well.
The director of ‘Stranger Things’, Shawn Levy, is planning a notable shift in the episode structure for season 5. Unlike previous seasons where he directed episodes 3 and 4, this time Frank Darabont will direct episode 3, titled “Sorcerer”, while the Duffer Brothers will handle episode 4. Fans might have to wait a bit longer for the release schedule of ‘Stranger Things’ season 5, but we hope more details will be revealed soon.
