You Will Die a Lot in Atomfall

In the game world of Atomfall, combat can be ruthless, particularly for those new to survival RPGs. One instant, you could be leisurely strolling through Casterfell Woods, going about your own affairs, only for a bandit gang to appear out of nowhere and point their shotguns at you just as quickly.

In this game, you can easily perish on the standard setting, but fortunately, enemies also don’t need much to be defeated. Stay calm, strategize, and employ these valuable Atomfall battle tactics to manage adversaries effectively and secure an upper hand in the game’s challenging combat system.

Always Aim For The Head

One-Shots Most Enemies – Especially With Arrows

A useful tactic for players of Atomfall is to focus on hitting the opponents’ heads. In many games, striking an enemy in the head causes additional damage; however, in Atomfall, a headshot will instantly eliminate most enemies, even with a basic Rusty pistol.

Enemies clad in armor might need two hits from a lower-grade weapon, but higher-powered weapons can still eliminate them with just one strike. On the other hand, ferals and thralls will always require multiple shots, irrespective of the type of weapon you’re using.

In combat, arrows prove incredibly efficient. Shooting an arrow at point-blank range to an enemy’s head can eliminate most humanoid adversaries, excluding Thralls (hostile scientists in hazmat suits). This tactic even applies to Feral creatures frozen in stasis; they’ll fall unconscious upon impact, before you trigger their awakening by getting too near. To ensure maximum effect, always aim for the head, and the immobile Feral will collapse to the ground. Notably, dispatching an enemy with a bow is silent, thus avoiding any unwanted attention from other adversaries.

Your Heart Rate Is Your Stamina Gauge

Manage Your Heart Rate To Stay Effective In Combat

In the game Atomfall, unlike most survival games that use a traditional stamina bar, you’ll find a heart rate monitor at the bottom right of your screen instead. When you engage in strenuous activities such as shooting, getting hit by an enemy, jumping over ledges, or sprinting, your character’s heart rate increases. As it approaches its limit, your character’s vision becomes blurred and their reactions become sluggish.

When your heart rate soars, it becomes more challenging to maintain accuracy with firearms and bows, as increased sway occurs over extended aiming periods or when heart rate is elevated. However, some benefits can help mitigate this issue; always be mindful of your heart rate for optimal performance in combat situations.

Ammo Is Scarce – Rely On Melee When Possible

You’ll Run Out Of Bullets Before You Run Out Of Cricket Bat

In the game called Atomfall, players can utilize ranged firearms, thrown projectiles, grenades, and close-quarters weapons to manage hostile non-player characters (NPCs). It may appear appealing to resolve every combat situation by firing, but ammunition is somewhat scarce in Atomfall.

Rather than solely depending on your gun or bow for combat, consider having a two-handed melee weapon at the ready. This will help conserve ammunition and allow you to handle certain enemies in close quarters.

In the game Atomfall, guns and bows pack quite a punch, but their limited ammunition forces players to think carefully about when to employ these long-range weapons. Rather than relying solely on them, it’s advisable to keep a formidable two-handed weapon at the ready for tackling single enemies and stragglers. However, you don’t have to completely abstain from using your gun or bow, but as Captain Sims often tells villagers, “A shot fired without purpose is a bullet wasted!

Stealth Kills (Takedowns & Bow) Are Quieter

Guns & Grenades Will Typically Attract Unwanted Attention

As an enthusiast of Atomfall, one crucial error novice players often commit is drawing excessive attention during combat. While the AI might not be the sharpest tool in the shed, engaging more than two at once can prove perilous. If you discharge a weapon, detonate explosives, or execute actions that generate a lot of ruckus, don’t be taken aback if a swarm of adversaries swoops down on you.

To keep a low profile, refrain from using your gun in highly hostile environments. Instead, opt for a bow to stealthily eliminate enemies at a distance or approach stragglers and isolated hostiles undetected to take them down semi-silently. Performing takedowns when surrounded by hostiles may draw attention (without the Quiet Takedown skill), but it will instantly kill all humanoid enemy types, including Thralls.

Don’t Forget To Use Throwables & Grenades

Molotovs, Makeshift Grenades, and Poison Bombs – Oh My!

In the game ‘Atomfall’, there’s an abundance of throwable grenades available. You can come across a lot of explosives and grenades scattered throughout the world, but what sets this game apart is that you can also create every type of grenade by finding the specific recipes for each one.

If you’re systematically gathering all items, you’ll frequently find resources needed for crafting grenades. Generally speaking, players start with Molotov Cocktails, followed by the ability to craft homemade grenades, poison bombs, blade bombs, and eventually military-grade grenades as they progress.

Grenades possess immense destructive power. The Poison, Molotov, and Blade grenades gradually eliminate enemies within a few seconds, whereas the Makeshift and Military grenades detonate immediately, killing most enemies instantly upon explosion. Utilize these against clusters of enemies to swiftly disperse them, but remember to carefully throw them so they land right in the midst of your targeted group.

Take On Enemies One At A Time

Unless You Have Explosives, That Is

In the game Atomfall, engaging more than two or three adversaries simultaneously is essentially a fatal mistake. Depending on the type of foe, such as Ferals, even tackling more than one could be quite challenging. It’s generally advisable to confront enemies individually as much as possible for your own safety. This way, you won’t need to dodge attacks from multiple angles and can concentrate on a single target.

In some places, it can be nearly unavoidable that adversaries move around in large groups or cluster closely together. Yet, even in such zones, hurling a grenade to disperse the majority of these clustered enemies is more advantageous than confronting them all simultaneously.

You Don’t Have To Attack Everyone

Sometimes, It’s Smarter To Run Away

In the game Atomfall, there are numerous adversaries, and hostile characters will reappear following a specific duration. Given the frequent backtracking in this game, it’s quite possible that you’ll need to traverse through certain areas multiple times, perhaps even thrice. Unlike other games, you don’t gain experience points by defeating NPCs; instead, you acquire their possessions. Every confrontation with adversaries is a test of survival, as you strive to balance your health and heart rate while handling the enemies.

In the game of Atomfall, while you may encounter adversaries, it isn’t necessary to eliminate each one. Interestingly, many of these enemies will give you a heads-up as you approach, and if you choose to retreat, they won’t turn aggressive.

Moving quietly around enemies or even fleeing from them saves ammunition, completes tasks quicker, and helps to dodge unwanted confrontations. This strategy greatly increases your odds of staying alive.

Kick, Then Heavy Attack To Kill Most Enemies Quickly

The Ol’ One-Two Does The Trick For Almost Every Enemy Type

In the game Atomfall, there’s a specific tactic that players can employ to eliminate almost any foe. This involves thrusting an opponent back at close range by pressing L1 (LB), followed swiftly by executing a Heavy Attack with a two-handed axe, aiming for the enemy’s head using R1 (RB).

If you connect, every hostile, except armored enemies, Ferals, and Thralls, will instantly die.

With an Axe, delivering Heavy Blows typically results in immediate death against common humanoid adversaries, regardless of a Kick. However, kicking enemies in Atomfall inflicts a small amount of damage, halts their attacks, and offers around two seconds of window – enough time to obliterate your foe’s skull with another Heavy Attack.

In my gaming experience, when facing Feral creatures and Protocol Soldiers, it’s crucial to string together a minimum of two heavy axe attacks aimed at their heads. On the other hand, when dealing with Thralls, you must land at least three hits to eliminate them.

Although using Kick on these adversaries doesn’t cause significant harm, it does create some space, inflicts minor damage, and makes those formidable foes slightly easier to manage in close combat.
