Summary
- Nayuta does not force connections, instead building bonds with Denji and others naturally.
- Nayuta, a reflection of Makima’s desires, created the family dynamic Makima longed for.
- Both embody the same fears, but Nayuta’s approach is more caring and less manipulative than Makima’s.
Eagerly embracing my role as the Control Devil, I yearned to achieve numerous feats, either inspired by the Chainsaw Devil or fueled by my own ambitions. Despite Pochita’s critique of my methods, my ultimate goal was to establish a relationship built on mutual respect and equality. However, being the Control Devil, fear always seemed to cast its shadow over me.
Instead of Nayuta being a reincarnation of the Control Devil mirroring Makima’s desires, it’s more accurate to say that Nayuta has fulfilled Makima’s aspirations and surpassed them. Despite sharing the role as the Control Devil, Nayuta is fundamentally distinct from Makima. This leads us to ponder: what common aspects do they share, and in what ways does Nayuta embody Makima’s core desires within the world of Chainsaw Man?
At Their Core, They Are the Same
The Control Devil Always Wanted Connections With Others
Fundamentally, Makima and Nayuta share an identical essence, and the Control Devil belongs to the Four Horsemen. The Control Devil represents the terror of control, but despite this fundamental similarity, their individual convictions have diverged.
Initially, Makima appeared to be an ordinary human and excelled at fitting in seamlessly. However, it was later unveiled that she was actually the Control Devil. In Chapter 97, Pochita disclosed to Denji in a dream that the Control Devil had always yearned for a personal connection and craved something akin to a family. As early as the beginning of the series, Makima had already set her scheme into motion by pairing Denji with Aki and Power, although she manipulated them for her own sinister purposes.
The Devil of Dominance has consistently aspired for an egalitarian bond with another being. However, her methods for forming relationships have been rooted in instilling fear rather than equality. Thus, she has yearned for the comfort and sense of belonging that comes from having something resembling a family.
Makima’s ambition to “improve the world” through eliminating fears might appear excessive given her actions to eradicate certain terrors like nuclear weapons and AIDS for increased joy. However, it could be that this was her means of drawing closer to Pochita, considering he had eliminated several Devils including these two threats, thereby contributing to a somewhat more tranquil world. It’s evident that Makima’s objectives have consistently revolved around family values and, in an unusual twist, safeguarding others from danger, despite the fact that her methods often led to more harm than benefit.
In the world of Chainsaw Man, when a Devil dies, it returns to Hell for rebirth. However, these reborn Devils retain no memories of their past lives. Instead, they persist with their inherent fears and beliefs, as is their nature. After Makima was defeated by Denji and devoured, a new Control Devil emerged, carrying on this pattern.
In China, Kishibe unveiled a new devil named Nayuta, following Denji’s accomplishment of devouring Makima. Nayuta mirrors Makima’s desires and needs. It’s likely that both Makima and Nayuta share common interests, such as their fondness for dogs, similar to Denji. Despite their fundamental similarities, Nayuta exhibits differences when compared to Makima.
What Are the Differences Between Makima and Nayuta as the Control Devil?
While the Two Have Similar Habits, They Also Have Significant Differences

The two depictions of the Control Devil exhibit notable similarities, but they also possess significant differences. It’s plausible that Makima’s prolonged existence in Hell and on Earth has shaped her perspectives uniquely. Conversely, Nayuta was nurtured by Denji. Her affections and interests are a testament to the profound influence Denji has had on her lifestyle.
In the story, Makima, an ardent admirer of Chainsaw Man, tirelessly devised strategies to separate Pochita from Denji’s heart. Her determination was such that she desperately hoped to be eaten by Pochita, seeing it as a rare honor to be consumed by the Hero of Hell. This act would not only advance her goal of spreading joy in the world but also make her an integral part of Chainsaw Man. However, fate had other plans, and Makima was devoured by Denji instead of Pochita. It’s worth noting that Makima never held any affection for Denji; she merely offered him shelter because he possessed Pochita within his heart.
Initially, I placed a wager, believing she had only been observing Chainsaw Man all along and had failed to notice me.
To clarify, Nayuta mirrors Makima’s desires and necessities, but their motivations differ. Occasionally, Nayuta might forcefully impose her will on others, yet she only employs her Control Devil abilities selectively when necessary. On the other hand, Makima tends to manipulate everyone around her as if they were chess pieces, without regard for reason or purpose.
Initially, it seemed like Denji’s feelings for Makima were reciprocated, given she was the one who first approached him. However, in reality, Makima didn’t care for Denji and was only interested in the Chainsaw Devil, Pochita. Reflecting on the situation now, Makima had the opportunity to achieve her goals since she was already part of a family with Aki, Denji, and Power, although it was Power who feared and respected one of the Four Horsemen. Furthermore, by maintaining proximity to Denji, Makima could have acquired Pochita and gained the affection she desired from him; unfortunately, her distorted thought process ruined this possibility.
- Denji created a family bond with Nayuta, calling her his little sister.
- Nayuta does not force others to bond with her.
- She actively rises to the challenges she faces during her time in school and actually wants to be in school.
In Chapter 97, Pochita hints that the Control Devil has been yearning for something akin to a family. Essentially, Nayuta acquired everything Makima desired. While Nayuta may appear immature in comparison to the Control Devil and hasn’t fully grasped her powers yet, under Denji’s care, she learned to show concern for those close to her, even if she remains detached towards others. However, it’s important to note that Nayuta does care about the people and pets she likes, specifically Denji and her pets.
Nayuta embodies all the desires Makima harbored. Regardless of her feelings, she forged relationships. While Pochita suggested smothering the Control Devil with affection, it was through this approach that Nayuta created a family that Makima yearned for – one composed of people who weren’t intimidated by her or her power. Furthermore, Nayuta drew nearer to the Chainsaw Man, as Denji sought to embody him, thus fulfilling yet another of Makima’s dreams.
