You Won’t Believe the ‘Useless’ Pokémon TCG Pocket Item Card

Summary

  • Rotom Dex is considered the worst Item Card by many players due to limited utility and its absence in winning PvP decks.
  • Upcoming Pokemon TCG Pocket sets are unlikely to introduce new Item Cards, because mini-sets tend to focus on Supporters instead.
  • Rotom Dex may fade in popularity as more utility-focused cards are introduced into the game.

As a dedicated fan of Pokemon TCG Pocket, I can’t help but notice the widespread belief that Rotom Dex isn’t exactly the most valuable Item Card in our game. Compared to its physical counterpart, we only have 13 Item Cards to choose from, making for a more restricted selection. However, it seems that one card among these has been singled out as being less beneficial than the others.

The forthcoming Pokemon TCG Pocket Extradimensional Crisis series is expected to bypass introducing any fresh Item Cards. Historically, mini-sets have mainly concentrated on enriching the pool of Supporter cards, with only one exception – Mythical Island, which incorporated Old Amber, Mythical Slab, and Pokemon Flute.

Before the upcoming expansion, some enthusiasts have identified Rotom Dex as one of the least effective Item Cards in the Pokémon Trading Card Game. The description of this card states, “Look at the top card of your deck. Then, you can shuffle your deck.” In a game context, it allows players to peek at their upcoming draw and decide whether to reshuffle, offering a minor boost for consistency. However, considering that Pokémon TCG Pocket decks only contain 20 cards, many believe incorporating one or two Rotom Dex cards might do more harm than good due to the limited deck size.

What Is the Point of Playing Rotom Dex in Pokemon TCG Pocket?

One fan proposed that the Rotom Dex item is beneficial when a player aims to “bypass” a certain card, enabling them to reshuffle the deck if drawing that unwanted card appears unavoidable. However, others contend it has limited uses and doesn’t fully deserve being labeled as the worst Item Card. Instead, they suggested Pokedex as a more suitable choice for

Among the primary criticisms leveled towards Rotom Dex is its lack of appearance in competitive decks that win tournaments. Detractors point out that unlike cards such as Pokemon Communication, which are now indispensable in tournament-oriented playstyles, Rotom Dex has not found a place in these high-tier decks within the Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket.

There are numerous Item Cards yet to be revealed in Pokemon TCG Pocket, and upcoming sets like A4 and A5 are predicted to expand the Trainer Card pool even more. Given this, it seems probable that Rotom Dex may become less prevalent in competitive play as more utility-centric cards become available. However, a potential change in the metagame could give rise to a new strategy that appreciates Rotom Dex. In the meantime, fans can only speculate if the Extradimensional Crisis expansion might offer hope for this underappreciated card.
