In the game Oblivion Remastered, players will encounter Clavicus Vile, the trickster Daedric Prince often referred to as the Child-god of the Moringstar. He has given players a formidable task: track down Umbra, a powerful warrior, and retrieve her sword for him as a trophy. This is no small feat, as Umbra is one of the game’s most challenging enemies, requiring players to have high damage output (DPS) if they hope to stand a chance against her. Successfully completing this task will earn players the Masque of Clavicus Vile, a sturdy helmet that boosts the wearer’s charisma or personality.
How to Start the Shrine of Clavicus Vile Quest in Oblivion Remastered
In the game Oblivion Remastered, you’ll come across the Shrine of Clavius Vile, which is situated to the southwest of the Imperial City. Be prepared to spare some cash, as interacting with the statue demands a tribute of 500 gold coins. Upon payment, the deity will address you and assign a quest: recover the sword of Umbra, a weapon imbued with its soul.
If you’re familiar with the original Oblivion game, you’d recognize the famous character and her powerful sword. You’d also be aware that she’s a formidable level 50 enemy, making her defeat no walk in the park. Yet, to finish the Shrine of Clavicus Vile quest, gamers must conquer her and claim her sword. The Deadric Lord will subtly guide players towards Umbra’s location by suggesting they commence their search at Pell’s Gate.
Defeating Umbra & Getting the Masque of Clavicus Vile
As a gamer, instead of embarking on a quest to find Umbra, I can jet off to her hideout directly, which lies southeast of Clavicus Vile’s Shrine, nestled within the Vindasel Ayelid Ruins. Once inside these ancient ruins, I’ll be tasked with navigating through the maze-like hallways, taking down pesky rats and mudcrabs along the way. Be careful, though, as there’s a chamber filled with harmful gas that requires extra caution!
Once you enter Umbra’s chambers, players find themselves able to converse with her, but this interaction is likely to start a boss battle promptly. If your stats and equipment are strong enough, don’t hesitate to engage in a full-fledged battle against Umbra. For those who often struggle against her, there’s an option to climb up on the pillars and rain arrows down on her from a distance.
After getting rid of Umbra, return her sword to the Sanctum of Clavicus Vile, and in Oblivion Remastered, he’ll bestow upon you the Masque of Clavicus Vile. This is one of the weaker Daedric artifacts in the game, and it’s a challenging choice to trade Umbra’s sword for it. However, players have the option to decline handing over the sword to Clavicus, and the questline at the Sanctum of Clavicus Vile will still be considered finished.
