The game “Ninja Five-O” has recently been released for play on personal computers and certain gaming consoles. This updated version of the classic Game Boy Advance title debuted before its 22nd anniversary.
Originally titled “Ninja Five-O” but commonly referred to as “Ninja Cop” in Europe, this action platformer was created by the defunct studio once responsible for the Bomberman series, Hudson Soft. Released on Game Boy Advance (GBA) in April 2003, it garnered high praise from critics for features such as its tough combat, intuitive controls, open-ended level design, and smooth animations. Critics at the time appreciated many aspects of the game, including its challenging combat, responsive controls, non-linear level design, and fluid movements. Despite the positive reception by critics, the game struggled to gain commercial success, with its poor sales causing publisher Konami to halt production of Ninja Five-O cartridges prematurely.
A refreshed version of “Ninja Five-O” has emerged, landing on PCs and consoles as early as February 25th, which is just under two months before its 22nd anniversary. Originally a Game Boy Advance exclusive, this updated edition can be found on the PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and PC (through Steam). The price point for all versions remains at $24.99.
Ninja Five-O Remaster Comes With 3 New Features
The revamped version of Limited Run Games’ Ninja Five-O comes packed with three significant updates. Among them is a Time Trial mode that lets you replay any level you’ve already completed. Additionally, a contemporary save system is included, enabling players to save and load their progress at any point throughout the game. Lastly, the game includes a time-rewinding feature, allowing you to go back a few seconds if you encounter tough sections in the game, making it easier to overcome challenging parts. These innovations have been introduced to enhance the accessibility of the Ninja Five-O remaster, bringing it more in line with current gaming trends.
Where To Buy Ninja Five-O Remaster
- Steam
- PS Store
- Nintendo eShop
Previously, when the initial version of the game gained a devoted fanbase, Konami had ceased manufacturing it because of poor sales. However, with increased interest in the action platformer and its scarcity, Ninja Five-O became one of the hardest-to-find GBA games, often selling for hundreds of dollars on eBay. The release of the remaster may not directly impact the original’s value, as it remains as scarce as ever. Yet, with Ninja Five-O now accessible on contemporary platforms, there could be indirect effects on the second-hand market.
Limited Run Games is providing actual copies of the remastered version of Ninja Five-O for PS4, PS5, Switch, and even PC (delivered via a USB stick). In line with its name and traditional methods, the firm is employing a pre-order system to decide the number of copies produced, which is currently ongoing. Those who order a physical version of Ninja Five-O by August 2024 can anticipate receiving their game in April 2025.
