YouTube Has Dropped To a Low Point For The First Time ‘In Years’ as Competition Rises

Recent data shows that YouTube Live is losing popularity as competition in live streaming increases. Platforms like Kick and TikTok are challenging YouTube and Twitch, and the established leaders are beginning to feel the effects.

A new report from Steamcharts covering the third quarter of 2025 shows that viewership on YouTube Live decreased by over 10% compared to the previous quarter. This is the first time in several years that YouTube Live’s share of the livestreaming market has fallen below 50%.

The Streaming Space is Becoming Saturated

As a big fan of keeping up with everything happening in streaming, I was really impressed with Streamscharts’ latest report. It didn’t just cover the usual big names – Twitch, YouTube, and all that – but also dug into a lot of the smaller, up-and-coming platforms from all over the world. It felt like a truly complete overview!

  • YouTube
  • TikTok
  • Twitch
  • Kick
  • SOOP Korea
  • CHZZK
  • Rumble
  • NimoTV

As a long-time YouTube fan, it’s honestly a little sad to see how much TikTok Live is taking over. The numbers show YouTube Live is really losing ground, and it’s clear why – TikTok has become *the* place for streamers to earn money. Their monetization options are just way too good to ignore, and it’s pulling creators away from YouTube.

TikTok Live is now a major player in the livestreaming world, accounting for over 31% of the market. Gaming streams make up more than 4% of that, and are quickly becoming a key part of TikTok – a platform that initially gained popularity with short-form dance videos.

YouTube Live still has a 45% claim over the market, but as Streamscharts wrote:

While YouTube Live is still the most popular platform, it experienced a 10.6% decrease in total viewing time (down to 13.25 billion hours), and its share of viewership dropped below 50% for the first time in years.

Even with ongoing issues and criticism, Kick is continuing to become more popular. Streamers are still choosing the platform as a place to broadcast, despite the fact that it remains under close examination.
