  • YouTube’s Premium service offers ad-free experience and exclusive perks.
  • YouTube will reduce mid-roll ads and improve ad experience due to growing competition.

As a gamer and avid YouTube user, I’m excited about the upcoming test of a fresh new feature on their premium service. You know, the one I pay for every month? Yeah, that one! Back in 2015, they debuted it as YouTube Red, but now it’s known as YouTube Premium, offering extras like YouTube Music. They’re always experimenting and adding exclusive treats for their premium family, and this latest feature is another gem on our list of benefits. Can’t wait to see what it brings!

For years, YouTube has been a dominant force on screens worldwide, paving the way for revenue-sharing models that services such as TikTok and Twitch now employ. While it’s been a trailblazer in creator monetization, some users have lately expressed dissatisfaction due to an upsurge in lengthy ads that cannot be skipped. In 2024, YouTube accumulated $36 billion from ad revenue, demonstrating the profitability of advertisements for the platform. Nonetheless, YouTube Premium provides a commercial-free experience for subscribers, along with other advantages.

As per a recent post by Stufflistings on Threads, YouTube is experimenting with a novel method for video suggestions while users are already watching. Instead of showing up on the homepage or suggested list, videos tailored to your viewing patterns will now populate in the Playlist section, referred to as the Queue. This feature is currently limited to YouTube Premium subscribers and can only be accessed on Android devices until April 7th.

The new addition to the Queue suggests videos tailored to users’ preferences; however, these suggestions are optional, meaning users must actively choose to add or play them. The aim is to make it simpler for users to discover videos they’ll enjoy. Also, YouTube recently introduced a new subscription tier called YouTube Premium Lite. This cheaper option eliminates ads in videos but does not provide access to YouTube Music or ad-free music videos.

In 2025, YouTube has been working hard to upgrade both its standard and Premium offerings. Addressing concerns about their advertising system voiced by users and creators, YouTube unveiled changes meant to minimize interruptions in the ad experience. From now on, mid-roll ads will appear less frequently, and there will be fewer ads shown during crucial parts of videos to enhance the overall watchability. These updates are implemented starting May 12, and they might be partially motivated by increasing competition from short video platforms and prominent streaming services.

Regardless of rival streaming services, YouTube maintains its position as a dominant platform due to its wide array of offerings such as content creation, music, live streaming, and video streaming under one roof. This multi-functionality positions it squarely against more focused platforms like Spotify, Twitch, and Netflix. To remain current, YouTube consistently introduces new features aimed at improving the user experience. Its latest upgrade is another strategic move to keep the platform dynamic and competitive.
