Yu-Gi-Oh: Early Days Collection Includes Rare Card Pre-Order Game Bonus

As a longtime Yu-Gi-Oh enthusiast who grew up watching the anime and collecting those elusive card packs, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming Yu-Gi-Oh: Early Days Collection on Nintendo Switch! The announcement has been like a Duel Monsters card straight from the Blue Eyes White Dragon deck to my heart.

2024 marks the 25th year since the introduction of the popular card game Yu-Gi-Oh, and its notable anime adaptation that was most popular in the ’90s and early 2000’s. Fans have much to rejoice about as the franchise reaches this milestone, with athletes promoting the brand, as well as the release of vintage card sets. The trading card game Yu-Gi-Oh still enjoys widespread affection.

Fortunately, gamers will no longer be left out as the Yu-Gi-Oh: Early Days Collection game pack for Nintendo Switch is now available. During Yu-Gi-Oh’s peak popularity, these Gameboy games were a blast to play, particularly for fans who couldn’t get enough of the show and card game.

Although Yu-Gi-Oh handheld games sometimes competed with Magic the Gathering, some of these games were exclusive to Japan – until recently. In a somewhat surprising move, Konami hasn’t announced an official release date yet or disclosed the complete list of games in this collection, but there are several popular titles that have diehard fans excitedly speculating.

So far, only five games have been revealed for the collection:

  • Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Monsters (1998, Game Boy)
  • Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Monsters 2: Dark Duel Stories (1999, Game Boy Color)
  • Yu-Gi-Oh Dark Duel Stories (2000, Game Boy Color)
  • Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Monsters 4: Battle of Great Duelists (2000, Game Boy Color)
  • Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Monsters 6: Expert 2 (2001, Game Boy Advance)

Despite being a modest collection, it’s a thrilling lineup! Out of all these games, only Dark Duel Stories among the Yu-Gi-Oh series was initially released in North America. Therefore, no matter what happens, gaming enthusiasts in the West will definitely get to experience four new, previously unavailable titles.

Thus far, Konami has revealed some intriguing details about the Yu-Gi-Oh: Early Days Collection. While the information may be limited, it’s certainly piqued fans’ interest. The collection will comprise at least ten games, each priced at $60, which is reasonable for such scarcely available retro games. Moreover, this game will be made available through numerous retailers and will initially launch as a Nintendo Switch exclusive. A detail that could send hardcore collectors into a frenzy is the inclusion of one of two Quarter Century Secret Rare Harpie’s Feather Duster cards in the physical edition.

You can now pre-purchase the game from various retailers like GameStop, Amazon, Walmart, among others, for $60. Additionally, fans might be interested in exploring the special edition card sets and an assortment of collectible figures that are currently on sale. Keep an eye out as the Yu-Gi-Oh: Early Days Collection is expected to have its official release date announced shortly, so it’s best to place your pre-orders early!
