A game designer on YouTube recently shared new footage of their remake of the classic game, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, using Unreal Engine 5. Originally released in 1998, Ocarina of Time was groundbreaking for bringing the Zelda series into 3D and introduced features like target-locking combat and interactive environments. Its innovative world design and gameplay continue to inspire many modern games, including action, adventure, RPG, and open-world titles.
Nintendo has released The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on many different systems over the years. It first reappeared in 2003 as The Legend of Zelda: Collector’s Edition for the GameCube. Since then, it’s been made available on the Wii and Wii U’s Virtual Console, and as part of the Nintendo Switch Online service. Nintendo also completely remade the game in 2011 as The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D for the Nintendo 3DS, adding several improvements to the gameplay.
CryZENx’s The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake Video Shows Inside Jabu-Jabu’s Belly
Okay, so I just saw this amazing video by CryZENx – they completely rebuilt the Inside Jabu-Jabu’s Belly level from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time in Unreal Engine 5! It’s a full 35-minute walkthrough, and honestly, it looks incredible. Even better, you can actually play it! They’ve got a free download for a 30 FPS version, which is awesome. If you want the smoother 60 FPS experience, you’ll need to support them on Patreon. Seriously, if you’re a Zelda fan, you have to check this out – it’s like experiencing that dungeon all over again, but with modern graphics!
CryZENx detailed the updates to the level in the video description, with the biggest improvement being how the game plays. It’s now easier and more natural to carry Princess Ruto, the character Link needs to rescue. Players can even control Ruto to assist Link with the puzzles inside Jabu-Jabu. The mod also makes the level design clearer and enhances combat by fine-tuning how enemies are hit. CryZENx mentions this recreation is still being developed, and the map, compass, and the boss battle still need to be implemented.
CryZENx has recreated The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time in Unreal Engine 5, demonstrating the engine’s impressive capabilities. They’ve updated the graphics of this almost 27-year-old classic to have a modern look and feel, while also refining the original gameplay. After 10 years of dedicated work, CryZENx has shown a remarkable commitment to reimagining this beloved game.
This fan-made remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is a great way for fans to enjoy the game while they wait for Nintendo to potentially create an official remake or re-release. While Nintendo has brought Ocarina of Time to different platforms before, fans are still hoping for a version on the Switch 2, like an updated Ocarina of Time 3D. This remake by CryZENx offers players something to experience in the meantime, as the next major Zelda game could still be a long way off.
