Nothing compares to harnessing immense energy from your team and obliterating your enemies with a colossal, spiritual blast – it’s truly awe-inspiring.
As a fan, I can’t help but feel enchanted by the Soulsborne series. It allows me to unleash my inner magician, weaving spells and wielding powers that are as diverse as they are captivating. From the fiery bursts of Pyromancy to the ethereal Sorceries, and a multitude of other mystical disciplines, each title offers an immersive world where I can live out my magical power fantasy in my own unique way.
Indeed, it’s important to note that not every spell is equally powerful or effective. As adventurers delve deeper into their journey and experiment with their skills, they eventually grasp the necessity of choosing the appropriate spells to ensure a better chance of success.
I completely understand their excitement. After all, Souls games are designed to be challenging, yet enjoyable. As for these spells, it’s fair to say that they will undoubtedly make your gaming experience even more thrilling once you incorporate these seemingly overpowered abilities into your arsenal.
In this collection, Bloodborne and Sekiro are absent because their gameplay doesn’t heavily feature spells. The few spells present in these games are rather unimpressive compared to other titles.
10. Rock Sling
Harness The Very Earth

Appears In | Elden Ring |
---|---|
Description | Summons rocks from the earth and sends them flying |
Stat Requirements | 18 Intelligence |
Location | Caelid, Street Of Sages Ruins |
Among the various spells in the game, Rock Sling may not deal the greatest amount of damage, but it could very well be one of the most effortless to cast and potent ones that will help you progress effectively.
As a gamer wielding the Meteorite Staff, I’ve found an incredible combo: Rock Sling. With a decent Intelligence level, this spell unleashes a massive amount of physical damage, and it swiftly fills that stun meter like nothing else. Plus, its impressive tracking ensures even the dodgiest enemies can’t escape my spells for long!
As long as you maintain your space and coordinate your throws at the right moments, Rock Sling will prove to be an effective ally throughout most of your adventure.
9. Poison Cloud
Lingering Miasma

Appears In | Demon’s Souls |
---|---|
Description | Spell from the Demon Leechmonger’s Soul. Generates a cloud of poison. |
Stat Requirements | 10 Intelligence & 10 Magic for Sage Freke |
Location | Sage Freke, the Visionary |
From my perspective as an avid gamer, is Poison Cloud considered a type of Cheese? Well, it might be a stretch. However, when we’re discussing potent spells, it’s not about adhering to some strict playstyle guide, but rather finding what works best for you. If using Poison Cloud helps secure the victory, that’s a definite win in my gaming book!
With this enchantment, the opponent will be afflicted with a potent poison that lasts for three full minutes. This toxin gradually weakens their vitality, giving you two options: either attack them from afar using your Soul Beam or choose to evade and seek cover. No worries, there’s no need for judgment here.
Poison Cloud is incredibly effective against numerous bosses in the game, making them significantly easier to defeat if you choose to use it. On your next playthrough, consider testing it out on The Old Hero or Flamelurker, as well as any other humanoid bosses.
Poison Cloud is a powerful tool against many bosses in the game, making them much more manageable if you decide to employ it. In your next playthrough, try using it on The Old Hero or Flamelurker, along with other humanoid bosses.
8. Great Chaos Fireball
The Chaos Flame Writhes

Appears In | Dark Souls 2 |
---|---|
Description | This special flame creates a short-lived surge of molten lava wherever it lands. |
Stat Requirements | N/A (Scales with Intelligence and Faith) |
Location | Brotherhood of Blood (Rank 3) |
This powerful charm ignites flames, melts rock as lava, and even triggers explosions – absolutely! It’s not just destructive in PvE combat, but incredibly effective too.
In a nutshell, with just one cast, you’ll inflict an immense amount of damage. If your adversary survives and has remaining health, they’ll be trapped by the persistent lava pit to ensure their defeat. This means your foes must strategize not only to dodge the initial spell but also the lingering environmental threats that follow.
Absolutely, such authority doesn’t come without a price. You’ll need to engage in plenty of Player versus Player battles to climb up to Rank 3 within the Brotherhood of Blood, but let me tell you, it’s more than justifiably rewarding.
7. Crystal Soul Spear
Shatter Your Enemies Like Glass

Appears In | Dark Souls 1 & 3 |
---|---|
Description | Fires a piercing crystal soul spear. |
Stat Requirements | 44 Intelligence (DS1) or 48 Intelligence (DS3) |
Location | Big Hat Logan (DS1) or Orbeck of Vinheim (DS3) |
In the Souls series, Crystal Soul Spear consistently stands out as an exceptionally damaging tool. However, to effectively use this spell, you’ll likely require a fairly substantial Intelligence stat. Nonetheless, the investment is undeniably rewarding.
This enchanted spear lets you hurl it from afar, and remarkably, it can penetrate groups of foes that are clustered together. In essence, the protection provided by their health or armor becomes virtually irrelevant as your adversaries will be defeated and vanquished before they even manage to strike back.
In the midst of a battle, even if you don’t often use this magic, you can always replenish your Focus Points (FP) on the spot. Regardless of who or what you’re facing off against, ensure that your Crystal Soul Spear is readily available for combat.
6. Golden Vow
A Source of Courage

Appears In | Elden Ring |
---|---|
Description | Increases attack power and defense for the caster and nearby allies. |
Stat Requirements | 25 Faith |
Location | Mt Gelmir, Corpse Stench Shack |
Are you finding your energy or strength decreasing a bit? Is your sword not as sharp as before in battles? Here, try casting this enchantment. Trust me, you’ll appreciate it afterward.
To put it simply, Golden Vow is quite impactful in the game. You can obtain it fairly early if you focus on Mt Gelmir initially. With just 25 or even 20 faith points and the Two Fingers heirloom to wield it, you receive a 15% increase in your attacks, along with some protective benefits as well.
15% may seem insignificant at first glance, but when combined with abilities like Flame, Grant me Strength, and Howl of Shabriri, it can significantly increase your power. Plus, this buff is also shareable with teammates if you find yourself in need of assistance during your adventure. However, be cautious to use the spell instead of the Ash of War for this specific effect.
5. Great Resonant Soul / Climax
Power Comes At A Price

Appears In | Dark Souls 2 |
---|---|
Description | A hex that distorts the power of life. |
Stat Requirements | 30 Intelligence and 47 Faith |
Location | Pilgrims of the Dark Reward (Rank 2 & 3) |
Charms significantly enhanced the game’s dynamics, and with this enhancement came immense power. However, to harness this devastating potential, certain concessions are required.
Initially, it’s important to have a combination of intelligence and faith in abundance for optimal damage output. Additionally, you’ll need a sufficient number of souls saved up to be able to perform the necessary spell.
If you’re low on resources, give Great Resonant Soul a try as it only requires 500 of your spiritual energy for each use. For those overflowing with spiritual energy, consider using Climax; however, be aware that when cast, it will deplete all your energy in one go, but the maximum power is achieved by spending 5,000 at once.
Absolutely, such a significant sacrifice inevitably leads to an astonishingly high level of collateral harm. However, when coupled with a Caitha’s Chime imbued with darkness, bosses will succumb as if they were dominoes falling in a line.
4. Comet Azur
Stream Of Destruction

Appears In | Elden Ring |
---|---|
Description | Fires a tremendous comet in a torrent akin to the distant starry expanse. |
Stat Requirements | 60 Intelligence |
Location | Mt Gelmir, Hermit Village, from Primeval Sorcerer Azur |
Experience the thrill of vanquishing a formidable foe without taking a step! Some may perceive this enchantment as economical and perhaps excessively potent, but there’s no disputing the cool factor of decimating an entire boss’ health in one magnificent wave of stellar energy.
To effectively cast this magic, you’ll need to put a substantial amount of your stats into intelligence. Once you hit the crucial 60 intelligence threshold, you’ll be well-prepared for success.
Beyond that, it’s worth noting that this enchantment can be significantly enhanced using various methods—ranging from Glintstone Crowns, Graven talismans, Terra Magica, all the way up to the crucial Cerulean Hidden Tear for optimal casting power. Consequently, with such a configuration, you’ll find yourself strolling through that misty portal, amassing energy for your spell, and reducing anyone who crosses your path to nothing more than rubble. They won’t even get the opportunity to retaliate.
3. Power Within
Pay Your Victories In Blood

Appears In | Dark Souls 1 |
---|---|
Description | Excessive power eats away the life-force of its caster |
Stat Requirements | N/A |
Location | Blighttown, beneath the Parasitic Wall Hugger |
Without a doubt, Power Within stands as the most formidable enhancement in the annals of Soulsborne games, particularly in Dark Souls 1. If your character’s build is facing difficulties, simply trigger this buff to witness an impressive surge in power. But just how substantial is this boost, you might wonder? A whopping 40% increase in damage! Does that suffice for you?
Absolutely, 40% seems quite excessive for such a minor inconvenience of gradually decreasing a small portion of your HP per second. To counteract this, simply boost your health reserves, and you’ll hardly feel the impact. This enhancement is particularly beneficial for unconventional builds like crossbows or bows that find it challenging to keep pace with bosses later in the campaign.
Moreover, activating it is incredibly simple! Simply find any pyromancy flame, venture into Blighttown, crush a large insect, and voila! With zero stat investment, you’ll now have a significant new weapon at your disposal.
2. Firestorm
Volcanic Eruption

Appears In | Demon’s Souls |
---|---|
Description | Generates a storm of fire around the caster. |
Stat Requirements | 18 Intelligence (For the 3 magic slots) |
Location | Yuria, The Witch |
If you’ve dabbled with Pyromancy spells in Demon’s Souls, you’re familiar with Firestorm. The question of its balance is up for debate, but one thing’s certain – its damage output is insane… and exactly how we prefer it!
Even though the bursts of flame erupting nearby are unpredictable, given that the boss has a substantial target area, it’s quite probable that they’ll get hit by some of them. Prolonged exposure to these flames, as you might guess, doesn’t bode well for their health.
This spell typically takes down bosses within one or two uses. The crucial aspect to watch out for is maintaining a proper distance and avoiding interruptions, which, truth be told, can easily be managed with patience. Fortunately, the casting time here is significantly shorter than Comet Azur, allowing you ample opportunity to cast repeatedly without worry.
1. Dark Bead
Master The Dark Arts

Appears In | Dark Souls 1 |
---|---|
Description | Fires successive Dark Orbs |
Stat Requirements | 16 Intelligence |
Location | Chasm of the Abyss |
Surely, you’re referring to the notorious Black Hole. A formidable tool for Player Killers, a menace to Bosses, and arguably the most excessively potent charm in Soulsborne lore. It’s undeniably one of the most gratifying spells to wield.
The ominous artifact known as “Dark Bead” hails from the depths of the Abyssal Chasm and is a lethal form of sorcery that inflicts both magical and physical harm. Upon being invoked, seven sinister orbs will swiftly discharge from your catalyst. Although each orb’s individual damage may not be particularly impressive, if you successfully land all of them on the enemy, it spells defeat for the boss.
The spell Dark Bead moves incredibly quickly, dealing massive damage against enemies with expansive hit zones, potentially even too much. With high intelligence and appropriate mage equipment such as the Tin Crystallisation Catalyst, you might only need a few casts to defeat any boss, even well into New-Game Plus.
Should we tone down, or leave as is, that’s the dilemma at hand. In my opinion, when encountered within the DLC expansion, this incredibly potent magic seems fittingly hard-won.
