15.49 Million TON Surge in Single Day – What’s Happening?

As a seasoned researcher with a keen interest in blockchain technology and its applications, I find the recent surge in transactions on The Open Network (TON) intriguing. Having closely followed the crypto market for years, I’ve witnessed numerous bull runs and bear markets, but this sudden spike in TON transactions is unlike anything I’ve seen before.

According to IntoTheBlock, an extensively used on-chain data collector, there’s been a significant increase in transactions on The Open Network blockchain, which is linked to the Telegram messaging platform.

On just one day, this metric experienced an incredible surge to 15.49 million transfers, more than doubling in size. This significant leap occurred on a Friday. According to IntoTheBlock, this dramatic increase is attributed to the heightened excitement surrounding the launch of HMSTR, the native token for the Hamster Kombat game, on exchanges and also its airdrop.

On Friday, the number of transactions on the @ton_blockchain skyrocketed to an impressive peak of 15.49 million in a single day. The main cause for this surge was the excitement surrounding the launch of @hamster_kombat’s token and airdrop.

Starting September 27th, the creators of Hamster Token Game (a popular game on Telegram with approximately 300 million monthly users) initiated the long-awaited distribution of HMSTR tokens. These tokens are earned by millions of players who have interacted with their screens and completed in-game tasks or conquered challenges within the game.

Yesterday, I had the privilege of observing the inception of the largest cryptocurrency airdrop ever recorded. Over 131 million qualified users were granted access to Hamster Tokens on the TON blockchain. 🐹💎Despite the substantial workload, the TON blockchain admirably maintained its uninterrupted performance, not skipping a single block.⬇️— TON 💎 (@ton_blockchain) September 27, 2024

Consequently, there was a significant increase of 15.49 million transactions on the TON blockchain, as users began creating tokens. Yet, not every one of the 300 million frequent gamers who have been involved in the game are eligible to receive tokens from the airdrop.

Based on a post from the game’s official Twitter account, it was announced that out of the 300 million players, only about 131 million can collect their tokens during season 1. The developers mentioned that approximately 2.3 million users were banned for cheating, and another 30.6 million eligible players missed the deadline for selecting their withdrawal method.

Out of the initial release of 100 million HMSTR tokens, 75% are set aside for the community. Following Season 1, just 60% of that amount will be distributed to users. However, users can only obtain approximately 88.75% of the total HMSTR tokens from this batch.

Many dedicated gamers felt disheartened and frustrated due to this shift. At the same time, the HMSTR token made its way onto prominent cryptocurrency platforms like Crypto.com and Binance, allowing for trading to commence.
