As a seasoned gamer with decades of gaming under my belt, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia as I bid farewell to the 2K Launcher. Over the years, it has been the gateway to many thrilling adventures and epic battles in games like Bioshock Remastered, Civilization V, and Mafia Trilogy Definitive Edition.
2K has officially decided to fully retire their launcher, no longer offering it as a part of any game available on the Epic Games Store or Steam.
2K announced the sunset of the 2K Launcher on November 18, but on November 25, they followed up with an update that completely took it off Steam. The beta version of the 2K Launcher designed for Sid Meier’s Civilization V was also taken down. Players will notice their 2KLauncher folder has been converted into a text file named “2kLauncherRemoved.txt”, which can now be deleted.
After this update, players may still encounter the 2K Launcher pop-up. However, they can try troubleshooting steps to completely eliminate it. One of the methods involves closing and reopening Steam entirely. Additionally, a simple solution is to restart your computer. Following the closure of 2K Launcher, certain titles such as Bioshock Remastered, Bioshock 2 Remastered, Bioshock Infinite, The Quarry, and Marvel’s Midnight Suns will start up automatically when you hit the Play button. However, games like Mafia Trilogy Definitive Edition, Civilization V, and others will still require launch through Steam and Epic Game Store platforms.
