$64.4 Million ETH Allegedly Withdrawn From Ethereum Foundation: What’s Going On?

As a researcher with experience in the crypto industry, I find these recent transactions involving Ethereum (ETH) worth $64.4 million quite intriguing. The fact that funds were moved from an account previously associated with the Ethereum Foundation adds another layer of complexity to this situation.

Newly surfaced information from crypto journalist Colin Wu indicates a large-value Ethereum (ETH) transfer, amounting to approximately $64.4 million. This transaction saw the funds being transferred from an account formerly linked with the Ethereum Foundation (“0x8e23”) to a freshly generated address (“0x8798”).

Nine years ago, on November 20, 2015, the Ethereum Foundation transferred 44,167 ETH, which held a value of around $40,930 at the time, to the address “0x8e23”. Currently, this sum is equivalent to approximately $154.58 million.

A significant sale of Ethereum (ETH) by a key figure connected to a major altcoin token has occurred before, but this latest transaction stands out as one of the largest in recent history. Previous sales did not surpass the 100 ETH mark, which corresponds to approximately $350,000 at current prices.

Vitalik Buterin, Ethereum’s creator, once explained the need for ETH sales to cover organizational expenses or charitable contributions. However, debating whether such large-scale ETH sales are indeed necessitated by these reasons is an ongoing discussion.

Ethereum (ETH) price outlook

Currently, the primary altcoin’s value hovers between $3,400 and $3,900, causing uncertainty among traders, as it has yet to surpass its record high of $4,868.

Despite this confusion, industry experts anticipate that this situation will be clarified and resolved in the near future.
