According to the sharp minds at Fidelity Digital Assets, Bitcoin’s “illiquid” supply-aka the bits of Bitcoin you just can’t touch-could climb to a whopping 8.3 million BTC by 2032. Yep, that’s about 42% of all the Bitcoin out there, just sitting around, gathering digital dust, waiting for its time to shine. 🚀 If this happens, don’t be surprised if Bitcoin’s price does a little somersault and shoots through the roof. 🌑💸

Bitcoin’s Illiquid Supply Could Hit 8.3 Million – That’s a Lot of Bitcoin Not Doing Anything

Now, how did Fidelity come to this wild conclusion, you ask? They used two very exclusive BTC clubs to determine just how “illiquid” the supply could get. The first club is made up of Bitcoins that haven’t moved in at least seven years-these coins are practically fossils by now. 🦖 The second club? Public companies that own at least 1,000 BTC. Let’s just say, this is like a Bitcoin VIP party. 🕴️

As for the public companies holding more than 1,000 BTC-well, they’ve been consistently adding to their hoards. In fact, since 2020, there’s only been one tiny dip in their BTC stash. Fast forward to June 30, and these companies are sitting pretty with a cool 830,000 BTC. 💼🍾

And get this, 97% of the BTC owned by public companies is in the hands of just 30 companies. It’s like a game of “Who’s Got the Most Bitcoin?” and the answer is: not you, sorry. 🙄

When we zoom out and look at the big picture, it’s clear: more and more companies are hoarding their Bitcoin rather than trading it. That means fewer coins are floating around in the wild.
