The ability to control blood is a particularly impressive and strong power often seen in shonen anime. Characters who can use blood – whether their own or their enemies’ – are always memorable, showing off both cleverness and a willingness to fight ruthlessly. They transform something as basic as blood into a dangerous and effective tool in battle.
Some shonen anime characters have incredible abilities involving blood manipulation, going far beyond simple control. These standouts can use their blood as a weapon, heal quickly, or even mimic others. Because of this, the most skilled blood users in shonen anime are incredibly dangerous and should never be underestimated.
9. Esidisi
- Anime: JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure
Esidisi, a character from JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Battle Tendency, is a particularly frightening and unsettling blood user. He has the terrifying ability to inject boiling blood through his blood vessels, capable of melting almost any substance on contact. He can also launch multiple blood vessels simultaneously, extending them like tendrils to attack from various directions, making his assaults unpredictable and hard to dodge.
Esidisi is hard to defeat because he can control his own body. Even if you destroy it, he can still survive by reorganizing parts of his brain and living as a parasite until he finds someone to take over.
8. Unohana Retsu
- Anime: Bleach
Bleach is known for its powerful and distinctive spirit releases, called Zanpakuto and bankai. Unohana Retsu’s bankai, Minazuki, stands out as one of the most unusual and unsettling abilities in the entire series. When activated, her blade transforms into a blood-like substance, allowing her to create deadly waves of blood that cover the battlefield. This turns the entire area into a terrifying space where any movement could be fatal.
Unohana Retsu is incredibly resilient, able to rapidly heal injuries with Minazuki, which makes her a tough opponent in drawn-out fights. She earned the title of Kenpachi because she truly embodies the strength and power it represents.
7. Shiro
- Anime: Deadman Wonderland
I’m a huge fan of Deadman Wonderland, and honestly, the character Shiro, also known as the Wretched Egg, is just incredible! She’s not just another blood user in that crazy world – she’s actually the very first Deadman, the one who started it all, and can control her blood abilities like nobody else.
Through extensive experimentation, Shiro developed an incredible ability to heal. Her body quickly recovers from any injury, no matter how serious, as if it never happened.
Shiro possesses a dangerous ability that lets her create incredibly sharp blood whips, capable of inflicting severe injuries on many people instantly. This immense power was actually responsible for the devastating Great Tokyo Earthquake, which happened when she lost control of it.
6. Muzan Kibutsuji
- Anime: Demon Slayer
Muzan Kibutsuji, the Demon King, is the main villain of Demon Slayer and the most powerful character in the series. He created all the demons that appear in Koyoharu Gotouge’s story, including the powerful Upper and Lower Rank demons who constantly oppose Tanjiro Kamado and the Demon Slayer Corps.
I’m absolutely fascinated by Muzan Kibutsuji’s Blood Demon Art! He’s got incredible control over his blood – he can turn people into demons with unique powers, heal himself instantly, and even weaponize his blood, shaping it into these unbelievably sharp, deadly attacks. It’s a really terrifying and creative ability!
Muzan is incredibly powerful, and he can become even stronger by consuming blood during a fight, making him a growing threat the longer it lasts. He’s also very intelligent and careful, always thinking several steps ahead, which makes defeating him extremely difficult. Despite all his strengths, Muzan has one major weakness: sunlight, which can completely incapacitate him.
5. Power
- Anime: Chainsaw Man
Power, the Blood Fiend from Chainsaw Man, is well-known for both her ability to control blood and her boisterous, confrontational personality. She becomes a close friend to Denji, but it takes time for her to trust him, eventually changing from someone who only looks out for herself to a fiercely loyal companion.
I’m absolutely fascinated by Power! She’s incredible because she can transform her own blood into practically any weapon you can imagine – hammers, spears, scythes, you name it, she can create it instantly to fit whatever’s happening. But it doesn’t stop there! She can even control other people’s blood if she touches them, and she can share her own blood with others. Plus, she gets stronger by, well, consuming blood. And her ultimate move, Blood Rain? It’s just devastating – a storm of blood swords and spears raining down on her opponents! It’s seriously awesome.

4. Cadis Etrama Di Raizel
- Anime: Noblesse
Cadis Etrama Di Raizel, known as Rai, is the most powerful character in Noblesse. As a pure-blood vampire of the highest rank, he serves as the judge and punisher of all vampires in the series, and is respected even by the proud noble vampires who acknowledge only the True Noblesse.
Rai is new to the modern world, but he’s incredibly skilled. His power to control blood is especially impressive in shonen anime – he can form barriers, create powerful attacks, and even unlock or suppress other people’s abilities. This makes him a very unpredictable and dangerous fighter.
3. Yuji Itadori
- Anime: Jujutsu Kaisen
By the end of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, many fans believe Yuji Itadori has become as powerful, or even more powerful, than the strongest sorcerers of all time – including figures like Gojo Satoru, Yuta Okkotsu, and Ryomen Sukuna. He’s grown so much that even a dangerous enemy like Mahito couldn’t stand against his new abilities, highlighting his incredible progress throughout the series.
The latest season of Jujutsu Kaisen shows a significant upgrade to Yuji Itadori’s blood manipulation ability. He can now use Piercing Blood to defeat all the jujutsu sorcerers and Simurian aliens within an entire building.
2. Lucius Zogratis
- Anime: Black Clover
Lucius Zogratis, the most powerful villain in Black Clover, stands out due to his unique blood magic. This magic allowed him to make endless copies of himself and create formidable paladins, all as part of his scheme to dominate both humanity and the world.
I’ve noticed some people new to Black Clover get Lucius Zogratis and Julius Novachrono mixed up – they really do look alike! But let me tell you, despite the similar appearances, they are complete opposites. Julius Novachrono is a genuinely good and incredibly strong wizard king, while Lucius Zogratis is… well, pretty much his opposite in every way.
1. Simon
- Anime: Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
Simon, the hero of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, is more than just a mecha pilot—he also has the power to manipulate blood. He begins the series as a shy and hesitant character, but through his journey, he develops into a strong and inspiring leader, carrying on the legacy of Kamina. Piloting the Gurren Lagann, Simon ultimately triumphs over incredibly powerful enemies, including the Anti-Spiral and its king.
Simon is a powerful blood manipulator, and while he has other abilities, he’s especially dangerous because he can transform his enemies’ blood into deadly weapons like massive drills.
