Police were called to check on a 91-year-old woman in Westlake, Ohio, after a wellness program couldn’t reach her. The program is designed to help seniors who may be injured or unable to call for help themselves. When the woman didn’t respond to calls, officers went to her home and received no answer at the door, raising their concerns. They entered through the garage and found her perfectly fine – deeply engrossed in playing video games and unaware of the attempts to reach her. She was simply focused on her game and hadn’t heard the calls or knocks.
A short recording of the 911 call reveals that everyone involved – the police and the caller – found the situation amusing. The officers realized the woman was simply trying to improve her score in a video game, though they didn’t find out which one. The woman enjoys being able to use the emergency services, but hopes to answer the phone next time so the police aren’t called unnecessarily while she’s playing.
