However, fans were left unsatisfied with this conclusion, prompting the creation of a follow-up limited series called Dexter: New Blood, produced by Dexter’s original showrunner, Clyde Phillips. In this new series, Dexter’s son, Harrison, appeared to have fatally shot his father, but once again, fans were divided over the ending. Despite this, Dexter: New Blood became Showtime’s highest-rated show.
