Final Destination” stands out as one of the most successful supernatural horror thrillers in Hollywood, captivating audiences with its gripping narrative. The story typically revolves around a group of individuals, one of whom has premonitions about impending death and manages to avoid it. However, the series’ tagline, “no one can escape fate,” is proven true as survivors find themselves in survival mode, constantly encountering dangerous circumstances that ultimately lead to their demise. To date, there have been six films in the franchise – “Final Destination” (2000), “Final Destination 2” (2003), “Final Destination 3” (2006), “The Final Destination” (2009), “Final Destination 5” (2011), and “Final Destination: Bloodlines” (scheduled for 2025). Craig Perry, the producer of the franchise, has expressed his least favorite among them.
In his new book “Screaming and Conjuring: The Resurrection and Unstoppable Rise of the Modern Horror Movie,” Perry openly discussed the franchise. He acknowledged that the fourth movie was disappointing and feared it would be the end. However, he expressed gratitude for its moderate success as it allowed them to create another film. In a quote obtained by Entertainment Weekly, Perry stated, ” frankly, I think the fourth one is terrible,” and continued, “but it did well enough to give us an opportunity to make amends with the fifth.” Despite initial setbacks, the franchise appears to be thriving, as evidenced by the success of Final Destination Bloodlines. This film broke records by earning $51 million in North America and a comparable sum globally. It reportedly had the biggest opening weekend for any film within the franchise. The impressive box office performance of Bloodlines suggests that the sixth entry, also titled Bloodlines, is likely to be successful as well.
In “The Final Destination,” directed by David R. Ellis, renowned for his action-packed and visually engaging thrillers such as “Snakes on a Plane,” we find ourselves in the fourth installment of the series. This film was designed to serve as a conclusion to the franchise. The story revolves around Nick O’Bannon (played by Bobby Campo), who experiences premonitions of a devastating accident at a racetrack. He and his companions, alongside some spectators, managed to escape the stadium, thus avoiding the impending disaster. However, Death begins to claim the lives of these survivors in grisly fashion, according to the sequence they would have perished in the initial incident. The film adheres to the series’ primary theme – a young hero with premonitions of a fatal accident – but the characters lack depth, and the narrative fails to engage the audience emotionally.
Bloodlines’ has garnered positive reviews from both critics and viewers.
Final Destination Bloodlines is still showing.
