As a dedicated gamer, I’ve been anxiously waiting for news from the silent corner of Double Fine Productions. The studio led by Tim Schafer has always been a trailblazer in creating some of the most eccentric and adored games of the 2000s, such as Psychonauts and Brutal Legend. Their latest release, Psychonauts 2, was met with widespread praise. Now, it seems we might be on the verge of another exciting adventure from this innovative team.
Following the launch of Psychonauts 2, Double Fine hinted at experimenting with fresh concepts, but since then, they haven’t shared any details about these potential projects or their release dates. Although official updates from the studio remain scarce, whispers are circulating that a new game is on the horizon.
According to Jez Corden, Executive Editor at Windows Central, he’s picked up some hints that Double Fine may soon release their upcoming game. The source or credibility of these whispers is uncertain, but Corden appears confident that the studio might unveil their new project during the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase. Previous speculations pointed towards the appearance of games like _Hollow Knight: Silksong_ and _Ninja Gaiden 4_, but there’s been little chatter about a Double Fine game so far. Given that Microsoft owns Double Fine, the June 8 event could be an excellent opportunity for them to announce their next project.
Double Fine May Reveal Its Next Game at the Xbox Games Showcase
In early 2024, Double Fine hinted at future projects they have in store, which will supposedly involve plenty of excitement as the studio celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2025. Although Double Fine significantly reduced the price of Psychonauts on Steam to mark that game’s 20th anniversary, it seems there’s more than just that sale in store. As the Xbox Games Showcase draws near, we might soon learn about further updates, but, as always, Double Fine has kept quiet, leaving us guessing about the details.
During the showcase, there’s a possibility that Double Fine could reveal some news, and if they do, it might be about a brand new intellectual property (IP). In past years, viewers have speculated seeing hints of Psychonauts 3, but those turned out to be misinterpretations. Previous remarks from Schafer suggest that the studio is focusing on creating original content, which could soon become clearer to fans. For now, we’re left in anticipation.
