Summary
- Hideo Kojima had to turn down cameos in Death Stranding 2 due to running out of space.
- Kojima confirmed some celebrities scanned for the game will be revealed in the launch trailer, no cameo for himself.
According to a recent announcement, Hideo Kojima, the renowned video game creator at Kojima Productions, had to decline appearances from many people who wished to appear in cameos for “Death Stranding 2: On the Beach”. This highly anticipated sequel to the 2019 original, titled “Death Stranding 2: On the Beach“, has already been scheduled for release on June 26, 2025. The project follows directly after its predecessor and features returning actors such as Norman Reedus, Léa Seydoux, and Troy Baker. In addition to these familiar faces, new characters will be introduced by Elle Fanning’s Tomorrow, Shioli Kutsuna’s Rainy, and Luca Marinelli’s Neil.
Earlier this year, it had been officially announced that director Michael Sarnoski would lead the live-action adaptation of Death Stranding, with A24 and Kojima Productions as producers. Furthermore, an anime version of Death Stranding is also in development according to Hideo Kojima’s confirmation, though specifics about the project are yet to be disclosed.
According to a tweet from @koji10_tbs via Genki, it was disclosed by Kojima that multiple individuals were scanned for the sequel, contributing to the previous rumors about Death Stranding 2 incorporating a VTuber into its cast. Unfortunately, more than half of these candidates were unable to secure cameo roles due to the project running out of available space. The report also mentioned that Kojima and his team amassed various “Preppers,” encompassing strong characters, some of whom recorded voice lines. Each Prepper required approximately 15 minutes for scanning.
Hideo Kojima Confirms Cameos Had to Be Cut From Death Stranding 2: On the Beach
In the trailer for Death Stranding 2, Kojima has hinted that some of the celebrity characters who made it into the final game will be unveiled. Interestingly, Kojima mentioned he’s unlikely to make an appearance himself in a cameo role because he chose not to get scanned for the sequel. The original Death Stranding featured appearances by Geoff Keighley, director Edgar Wright, and Sam Lake from Alan Wake, who were all scanned for their roles as Preppers in the expansive game content.
Without a doubt, it’s anticipated that Hideo Kojima will make an appearance at Summer Game Fest 2025, organized by Geoff Keighley. Fans are eagerly waiting for updates on projects such as Death Stranding 2, OD, or Physint. Set to take place on June 6 at 5 PM Eastern Time and 2 PM Pacific Time, this year’s Summer Game Fest promises all the regular attendees, including Day of the Devs, Future Games Show, Xbox Games Showcase, PC Gaming Show, and a likely packed Opening Night.
