Since 2008, fans have been eagerly waiting for a new installment of the beloved game, Banjo-Kazooie, with no new releases since the 2008 title, Nuts & Bolts. However, there remains hope that the bear and bird duo will grace our screens again someday. The original Banjo-Kazooie games on the Nintendo 64 brought Rare significant success, leading to a franchise that spanned mobile spin-offs like Grunty’s Revenge and Banjo-Pilot on the GBA, a sequel named Nuts & Bolts, an appearance in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as DLC, and more.
Although Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts has its loyal followers, many gamers view it as an unconventional addition to the cherished 3D platformer series. For years, devotees of Banjo-Kazooie have yearned for a fresh adventure featuring their favorite duo on contemporary gaming systems. However, in 2025, no new Banjo-Kazooie game has emerged. There have been whispers about a possible upcoming Banjo-Kazooie project, but so far, nothing solid has surfaced. The most recent update suggests that the rumored Banjo-Kazooie comeback may have been halted following Microsoft’s latest round of layoffs. Yet, there remains a glimmer of optimism that the franchise will resurface in the future.
In a conversation on the VGC podcast (as reported by TheGamer), Andy Robinson from VGC mentioned that although Rare might not be ready to develop a fresh Banjo-Kazooie game, there have been proposals for such a project, and studios like Toys for Bob and Moon Studios are rumored to be keen on taking it up. Moreover, there’s also speculation about transforming the series into a film or animated show, suggesting that if a new Banjo-Kazooie game never materializes, the franchise may continue thriving in other entertainment formats.
Banjo-Kazooie Pitches Are Being ‘Heard’ at Xbox
It’s widely believed that Toys for Bob could be an ideal choice for developing the next Banjo-Kazooie title. Previously operating under a larger studio, they have now gained independence and have successfully worked on remastered versions of Crash Bandicoot and Spyro games, as well as creating Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, which received generally positive feedback when released in 2020. At present, there are whispers that Toys for Bob is working on a new Spyro the Dragon game for Xbox, strengthening their connection with the franchise. While it’s unconfirmed whether they will create a new Banjo-Kazooie game, the possibility is certainly intriguing.
It’s intriguing to consider Moon Studios working on this project too. For those not familiar, Moon Studios is the team behind the highly praised Ori games, and they’ve recently shifted focus towards the action-RPG No Rest for the Wicked. On the other hand, it would be delightful to see Rare leading the franchise again, given that Everwild has been canceled. As of now, there’s no official announcement about a new Banjo-Kazooie game, but let’s not lose optimism just yet.
