The Perfect Release Date For Starfield’s Rumored PS5 Version is Just Around the Corner

According to XboxEra in early 2024, there were rumors that Microsoft might release one of its most significant exclusives from the past few years, Starfield, on the PlayStation 5. This news surprised many Xbox fans, who feared that Microsoft was considering a complete exit from the console market and transitioning into a third-party publisher. However, no official confirmation had been made at the time. Interestingly, several insiders also suggested around the same period that other Xbox exclusives such as Hi-Fi Rush, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and Sea of Thieves might also be coming to PlayStation 5, along with Starfield.

Approximately a few weeks following the publication of the Starfield report, Microsoft held a business briefing where they announced their intention to bring four of their games to PlayStation and/or Nintendo consoles later in the year. Contrary to earlier speculation, however, Microsoft clarified that neither Starfield nor Indiana Jones were being developed for the PlayStation 5, and that their strategy regarding exclusives remained unchanged. Unfortunately, many of the statements made during this event did not hold up over time, as the rumors about Microsoft releasing games on PlayStation consoles generally turned out to be accurate. The one game yet to appear on other platforms is Starfield, although there are rumors that this may change. If these rumors come to fruition, an ideal release date for the game would be the second anniversary of its original launch.

Starfield’s PS5 Port Should Launch Near The Game’s Two-Year Anniversary

Rumors Suggest that Starfield is Coming to PS5 Soon

Initially, there were whispers that the game Starfield could potentially be available on PlayStation 5 as well, alongside its Xbox and PC versions. However, as of now, it’s only playable on those platforms. But fear not, PlayStation gamers! There are hints suggesting that the game may eventually make its way to your console. Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming, subtly indicated in a January interview that Starfield might not stay exclusive to Xbox for much longer. Then, a few months later, a PlayStation logo was found on the official Bethesda Creation Kit site for Starfield. Additionally, reputable sources like NateTheHate have hinted at a future PS5 port for Starfield.

September 5 Would Be a Great Day to Launch Starfield on PS5

As a passionate gamer, if the whispers about Starfield gracing the PS5 indeed hold true, then I can’t help but feel September 5, 2025 would be an ideal launch date for Sony’s console. The date might not ring any bells for gamers who’ve been out of the loop, but it’s actually just one day before Starfield’s two-year anniversary. You see, this epic space adventure first set sail on September 6, 2023, on Xbox Series X/S and Windows PC. Since September 6 is a Saturday this year, it wouldn’t be surprising if Microsoft decided to bring Starfield to PlayStation on the previous day.

It is very rare for a video game to be released on a weekend, like Saturday.

Besides being near an anniversary, September 5 holds promise for introducing the Starfield port for several reasons. A couple of days before the start of September, Microsoft is scheduled to attend gamescom 2025, a well-known annual gaming convention held in Germany. Unlike its counterparts Sony and Nintendo, Microsoft typically shares significant news at this event. For instance, last year they announced that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle would be ported to PS5 several months after its release on Xbox Series X/S and PC. Given this pattern, it’s plausible that Microsoft may unveil a Starfield PS5 port during gamescom 2025.

As a dedicated gamer eagerly awaiting the release, I can say that if Starfield indeed launches for PS5 on September 5, it seems like an opportune time for PlayStation fans as there won’t be much competition from other Microsoft games during that period. The only other former Xbox exclusive set to release on PS5 around the same time is Gears of War: Reloaded, which is slated to debut a week earlier on August 26, 2025. This one-week gap will allow players to wrap up Gears of War: Reloaded and perhaps dive right into Starfield, should they be intrigued by the game.
