Legendary rock star and television figure, often referred to as the “Prince of Darkness,” Ozzy Osbourne, has sadly passed away on July 22 at the age of 76. Known for being the lead vocalist of Black Sabbath, he died following a long struggle with Parkinson’s disease – just three weeks after his last live performance.
Among the most recognized and impactful figures in the heavy metal music scene, Ozzy Osbourne is often one of the initial names mentioned. For close to six decades, starting from 1968 when he co-founded Black Sabbath, Ozzy has released almost two dozen albums, with a mix of solo ventures and collaborations with the band.
Regrettably, Ozzy Osbourne, known for his illustrious career and iconic life, has departed from us. On July 22, Sharon Osbourne, his wife and manager, together with their children Jack, Kelly, Aimee, and Louis, shared the news on Ozzy’s official Instagram account. The post stated that he was surrounded by family and love when he passed away. They requested everyone to honor their privacy during this difficult time. The Legacy of Ozzy Osbourne
Ozzy Osbourne, a legendary figure in heavy metal music, passed away less than three weeks after his last live performance during the “Back to the Beginning” farewell tour, which was held alongside original Black Sabbath members Tony Iommi, Bill Ward, and Geezer Butler. The final show recording, titled “Back To The Beginning: Ozzy’s Final Bow“, will be shown in theaters across the globe starting early 2026, offering a unique chance to witness live performances of metal anthems like “War Pigs,” “Iron Man,” and “Paranoid.” Additionally, his memoir, “Last Rites“, is currently being written, though its release may be impacted by his passing.
Despite being primarily recognized for his successful music career, Ozzy Osbourne has significantly impacted various other forms of media as well. He has graced the screens in films like “Austin Powers in Goldmember” and “Trolls World Tour”, television shows such as “South Park” and “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation”, and even starred in his own reality show, “The Osbournes”. In the gaming world, he was a character in “Guitar Hero World Tour”, the Guardian of Metal in “Brutal Legend”, and a wrestler in “WWE Champions”. The Prince of Darkness also made an appearance in a humorous commercial for “World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King” – even performing at BlizzCon in 2009 to celebrate the expansion – and another ad for “Horizon Call of the Mountain” more recently. Furthermore, his music has been featured extensively in numerous video games, including “Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas”.
Ozzy Osbourne led a rollercoaster existence, marked by peaks and troughs; however, his adoring fans will deeply mourn the loss of the iconic “Prince of Darkness.” Though he’s departed from this world, the indelible mark and enduring legacy of this larger-than-life artist will persist.
