A passionate fan of “Donkey Kong Bananza” decided to personalize their game cartridge for the Nintendo Switch 2, but unfortunately, things took a turn for the worst. This fan posted a sequence of videos detailing their process, and the reaction from other “Donkey Kong Bananza” and Nintendo Switch 2 enthusiasts has been one of dismay and shock.
In contrast to earlier Nintendo systems where game cartridges had distinct colors such as golden for “The Legend of Zelda” or yellow for “Donkey Kong 64”, the cartridges for Nintendo Switch 2 are incredibly small and entirely concealed within the console when inserted. This customization practice has largely been phased out, as cartridges in systems like N64 and Game Boy were only partially hidden, but this is no longer the case.
As a dedicated fan of the timeless classic Donkey Kong, I, gardnerhartung, felt compelled to honor these iconic game cartridges. I decided to add a touch of nostalgia by painting my copy of Donkey Kong Bananza with vibrant yellow spray paint. Once dry, I excitedly inserted it into my brand-new Nintendo Switch 2, fully aware that the paint might transfer onto the device. However, the cartridge got stuck in the slot and things only escalated from there.

Nintendo Switch 2 Cartridge Modification Goes Horribly Wrong
As the videos progress, Gardnerhartung demonstrates his attempts to get the cartridge out of the Switch 2. Initially, using pliers merely scrapes off yellow paint from the top of the cartridge, rendering his efforts to repaint it ineffective. Throughout this process, Gardnerhartung maintains a calm demeanor, until the very end. He mentions that as he’s planning to play Donkey Kong Bananza for some time, the current situation isn’t urgent for him at the moment, but he is open to suggestions on how to resolve it. However, moments later, his use of pliers breaks off the top of the cartridge entirely, and a sense of realization dawns upon him as he says “I guess I just broke the cartridge” with a wry smile.
As a gamer, I can tell you that the video has been quite an unpleasant ride, mostly because it seems like my friend might have permanently damaged his brand-new Nintendo Switch 2. Given how hard it is to get your hands on this console due to its high demand and limited supply, it’s really frustrating for those still waiting to get one. So, fellow gamers, let’s learn from my buddy’s mishap and be cautious when modifying our Nintendo Switch 2 game cases – better safe than sorry!
