Elden Ring Developer Thanks Fans as Nightreign and Shadow of the Erdtree Top New Sales Milestones

To put any remaining uncertainty to rest about the phenomenal success of FromSoftware’s Elden Ring series, today publisher Bandai Namco announced that their DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, has surpassed 10 million copies sold, and their cooperative spin-off game, Elden Ring Nightreign, has reached 5 million.

The base game itself has now exceeded 30 million copies sold.

Shadow of the Erdtree” is an additional storyline for the popular role-playing game developed by FromSoftware. This single-player expansion takes place in a shadowy realm, offering fresh weapons, loot, adversaries, and boss battles to explore.

We thought Shadow of the Erdtree was a ‘Masterpiece’, and awarded it a rare 10/10, writing in iggn.ru‘s Shadow of the Erdtree review: “Like the base game did before it, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree raises the bar for single-player DLC expansions. It takes everything that made the base game such a landmark RPG, condenses it into a relatively compact 20-25 hour campaign, and provides fantastic new challenges for heavily invested fans to chew on.”

Initially, the main game earned a perfect score of 10/10 during its February 2022 launch review. However, another separate adventure titled Nightreign wasn’t as successful, receiving a ‘Good’ rating of 7/10 according to our Elden Ring Nightreign review. Despite this, Bandai announced that over 2 million copies of Nightreign were sold within just 24 hours.

Playing Elden Ring Nightreign as intended offers an outstanding demonstration of a triple-player cooperative game; however, achieving this can prove challenging, and the single-player experience seems to lack balance.

Today, we shared news that Sony has purchased a 2.5% share in Elden Ring’s publisher, Bandai Namco. According to Sony, this 16 million-share deal is a step towards a wider “strategic alliance” with Bandai Namco, with the aim of increasing the global fan base for their intellectual properties (IP) like anime and manga, and enhancing user engagement.

It’s not surprising to learn that a movie based on Elden Ring is in development, considering Director Alex Garland has completed his seventh playthrough of the epic fantasy RPG and continues to find Malenia as the most challenging character.
