ChatGPT Outage: Why Is OpenAI’s Chatbot Down Today?

As a long-term crypto investor and avid user of AI tools like ChatGPT, I’ve grown accustomed to the occasional hiccups that come with innovative technology. However, the recent prolonged outage of ChatGPT has been particularly frustrating, especially given its widespread impact on users around the world.

Sam Altman’s OpenAI has acknowledged an ongoing issue causing ChatGPT to be unavailable. Their live platform status page indicates they are working diligently to resolve the problem and reinstate access. The disruption started on Tuesday, June 3, with users reporting difficulties launching ChatGPT via Chrome.

Additionaly, Mobile users, particularly those using Android, have run into problems. Some users can still utilize the service, but others face an “Internal Server Error” when attempting queries. Moreover, ChatGPT’s paying subscribers have been affected as well. These users have reported sluggish responses or no replies at all.

OpenAI’s status report shows they’re looking into a problem with no confirmed length for the current ChatGPT interruption. Previously, on May 23, ChatGPT faced an extended outage of over 8 hours. Remarkably, OpenAI has managed to maintain a high uptime rate of 99.67% in the last three months despite these disruptions.

Based on Downdetector’s data, OpenAI experienced a significant increase in user complaints totaling 2,632 within a short timeframe. Approximately 81% of these reports highlighted problems with the widely-used AI chatbot, ChatGPT. The remaining 14% of complaints were related to issues accessing the OpenAI website, while 5% encountered difficulties running the mobile application.

Aftermath Of Recent Service Disruption

During the ChatGPT outage, users encountered difficulties in producing any responses and even logging in. Consequently, many users grew angry and took to X to voice their frustrations, utilizing the hashtag #ChatGPTDown to describe their predicament.

Furthermore, the latest interruption affected users globally, generating concern among ChatGPT’s worldwide community. Simultaneously, they encountered a “Bad Gateway” message when attempting to use the chatbot functions. Additionally, there were instances where ChatGPT delivered outdated information.

Despite some users experiencing issues with the ChatGPT interface while logged in, others found that it functioned properly in incognito mode. It’s been proposed that the majority of the outage affects those who are signed in. Consequently, individuals not logged in or utilizing Chrome’s incognito browsing to access the services may observe enhanced response times and productivity.

As a crypto investor and regular user of ChatGPT, I’ve noticed that there have been some disruptions in the service lately. Users, including myself, have expressed concern and asked OpenAI for an estimated timeframe to resolve these issues. However, OpenAI has yet to provide us with any updates regarding when the problem might be fixed. Considering their past record of service interruptions, it’s likely that this issue may take several hours to be addressed by their team.
