Ripple CTO Issues Crucial Warning to XRP Community

As a researcher with experience in the cryptocurrency industry, I cannot help but express my concern over the latest phishing scam warning shared by Ripple’s CTO, David Schwartz. The potential danger of such scams is all too real, and it’s essential for the community to remain vigilant.

As a researcher, I’ve come across a warning from Ripple‘s CTO, David Schwartz, who goes by @JoelKatz on the X social media platform (previously known as Twitter). He took to Elon Musk’s X network to issue a caution against falling prey to a new phishing scam he recently encountered.

Ripple CTO’s scam warning

David Schwartz recently posted a tweet featuring a screenshot of a Direct Message (DM) from user @3YearLetterman. In his comment, Schwartz warned the XRP community that if they ever received a similar DM, it was essential to note that the message was not authentic.

The writer of the email asserts that they are a member of the X team responsible for providing support, and they’ve notified the recipient that their account is under scrutiny due to suspected copyright infringements. The recipient is asked to respond to this allegation by filling out a form linked in the message within the given 24-hour timeframe. If no action is taken within the stipulated period, the X account could be put on hold.

HEED THIS WARNING: Should you come across a DM containing similar content, be wary – it’s a fraudulent attempt. The linked site is designed to steal your login credentials and personal information through phishing tactics. (Additionally, consider following @3YearLetterman for amusing insights on waterbed financing.)

Based on the provided screenshot, the account in question had over 210 thousand followers as of that point, and they had signed up for X back in December 2010 – a time when X was still an independent entity before Elon Musk’s acquisition and subsequent rebranding.

Schwartz advised against clicking on the link if they received a similar email, as it led to a phishing site. Users’ X logins and personal details would be compromised if they visited this site.

“Absolute proof I am not Satoshi”: Ripple CTO

As a cryptocurrency analyst, I’d like to clarify that around a week ago, Ripple’s high-ranking executive, Brad Garlinghouse (also known as Schwartz), published a statement denying the long-standing rumors suggesting his involvement in creating Bitcoin, as Satoshi Nakamoto. Despite repeated dismissals by the CTO himself, some members of the crypto community remain convinced that it was indeed Schwartz who introduced the world to the first digital currency.

On that particular day, I, as an analyst, observed Schwartz sharing a selfie from the Consensus2024 event on his social media platform. In the image, Schwartz was present with an individual wearing a golden mask and hood, indicating his preference for anonymity – reminiscent of Satoshi Nakamoto’s identity. I noted that Schwartz accompanied this post with the caption “Finally, irrefutable evidence I am not Satoshi.”

Prior to that, Schwartz tweeted that the idea of him being Satoshi was “not true but plausible.”
