Sony has officially named Project Defiant, the upcoming controller for the PlayStation 5, and also confirmed a release window. The announcement timing, about two months after the unveiling of the new PlayStation 5 fightstick, precedes the annual EVO Tournament in Las Vegas, which will undoubtedly keep many fans thrilled in anticipation of the official launch.
At June 2025’s State of Play event, Sony unveiled Project Defiant, which had earlier been referred to as such. This announcement preceded Sony’s unexpected debut of “Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls”. The tag-team fighting game left fans in awe, being the result of a partnership between Sony, Marvel, and Arc System Works. It offers 4v4 tag battles with characters including Iron Man, Dr. Doom, Captain America, and others. Although specifics about Project Defiant were limited at first, based on the initial trailer, Sony has now disclosed substantial details about the wireless fightstick associated with it.
In a fresh blog announcement, Sony has revealed that the previously code-named PS5 project, Defiant, is now formally named FlexStick. This is Sony Interactive Entertainment’s first fight stick controller. It can be connected either wired or wirelessly via Sony’s PlayStation Link, which boasts ultra-low wireless technology. The FlexStick will make its debut at Evo 2025, taking place from August 1-3. Preliminary sales are expected to commence in 2026, possibly around the launch of Marvel Tokon.
Sony FlexStick Wireless Fightstick Features
The article additionally delves into fresh aspects concerning FlexStrike, targeting enthusiasts of fighting games accustomed to popular fightstick brands such as Qanba and HORI, among others. Beyond its fully customizable controls and inputs, FlexStrike boasts mechanical switch buttons and swappable restrictor gates without the need for tools. Moreover, users can utilize a PS Link USB adapter to link numerous FlexStrikes, DualSense controllers, Pulse headsets, or earbuds concurrently.

Undeniably, the main highlight of the FlexStrike announcement centered around a game named Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, which is also set to make a significant impact at this year’s Evo event. The reveal of Marvel Tokon has stirred excitement among fighting game enthusiasts due to its revival of the tag fighter genre for Marvel, and Arc System Works’ unique Japanese interpretation of Marvel’s legendary characters. For instance, Iron Man showcases Gundam-esque design elements in his armor, while Ms. Marvel adopts a more anime-inspired look. Given that Arc System Works will be present at the event, along with their games like Guilty Gear Strive, fans are eagerly awaiting updates on Marvel Tokon during Evo.
