Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Will Give Us the Most Beautifully Animated Death

This article contains spoilers for the Demon Slayer manga.

The anime titled Demon Slayer doesn’t shy away from heart-wrenching character deaths, particularly during the Infinity Castle arc where no one is invincible. Even mighty demons like Muzan Kibutsuji, who yearns for eternal life above all else, aren’t immune to death. Unforeseen ends are commonplace in the Infinity Castle, whether you’re a demon or a slayer.

Lucky for us, ufotable is an anime studio that excels at creating moving, well-animated death scenes in Demon Slayer. Regardless of how gruesome a death may be, ufotable always manages to provide characters with fitting finales. Infinity Castle won’t buck the trend, as ufotable could very well make one character’s demise the arc’s most poignantly animated moment.

Infinity Castle Character Deaths Fans Will Never Forget

Who Will Die in Infinity Castle?

  • There will be 7 major deaths in the Infinity Castle arc.
  • Every death will be different, but most of them will die from decapitation.

Entering the Infinite Stronghold may seem effortless, but escaping onto the open exterior is a perilous endeavor for every Demon Slayer protagonist. They’ll bravely risk their lives in combat within the fortress, with only two possible outcomes: either they emerge victorious or meet their untimely end in gruesome fashion. Regardless of their immense strength or abilities, there’s no assurance that they’ll survive another day once inside.

Indeed, in the Infinity Castle arc, not even the strongest demons or swordsmen are exempt from their final moments. The initial film, named “Akaza Returns“, will reveal to fans the sheer peril of the battles between good and evil. The confrontation between Zenitsu and Kaigaku will culminate in the latter’s demise by beheading. In her predestined meeting with Doma, Shinobu Kocho will meet her end through absorption.

All that lives must die. Only feelings are eternal and undying. That is true.—Muzan Kibutsuji

Beyond that, it’s worth noting that Akaza meets his end, despite the first film bearing his name. The sequence of deaths doesn’t end there, as Shinobu encounters Doma in the afterlife shortly before his poison takes its toll. Nakime also perishes, thanks to a joint effort by Obanai, Mitsuri, and Yushiro. Lastly, the confrontation with Kokushibo results in the demise of the upper moon, along with Muichiro Tokito and Genya Shinazugawa.

The Most Beautifully Animated Death in Infinity Castle Might Belong to Akaza

Ufotable Might Go All Out for Akaza’s Final Moments

Among all the character deaths in Infinity Castle, it seems ufotable spared no effort in creating a visually stunning animation for Akaza’s last moments. Even though he transformed into a demon, his departure holds an intensely emotional impact that demands exceptional scenes from ufotable. Given the title of the first movie centers around Akaza, it’s not surprising that his farewell from Demon Slayer will be more poignant and intense than any other character’s exit.

Unlike most denizens of Infinity Castle, Akaza won’t perish at the hands of a demon slayer, instead choosing self-annihilation. Remarkably, after Tanjiro and Giyu severed his head, he kept moving, even regenerating – a feat unheard of among other demons. This tenacity to exceed himself, even in service to Muzan, is a testament to Akaza’s indomitable spirit.

Thankfully, Akaza’s cherished memories of his life as a human named Hakuji started surfacing just in time. Although Muzan’s control over Akaza is strong, the love and forgiveness from his father, mentor, and partner are expected to release him from the demon king’s grasp. The internal turmoil that Akaza experiences will likely be portrayed with great attention, but given ufotable’s history of producing powerful and intense animations, it seems almost certain that this part will not disappoint.

Is Akaza’s Death Proof That Demons Can Be Redeemed?

Did Akaza Die a Monster or a Redeemed Man?

In the Infinity Castle storyline, unlike other demons who will perish filled with dread, refusal, and wrath, Akaza will pass away serene and thankful towards Tanjiro. Death won’t frighten him; rather, he’ll meet it to reunite with his cherished ones. He won’t resist defeat but acknowledge it, and anger won’t consume him as he understands his liberation from Muzan’s control. Many manga enthusiasts consider Akaza’s death not a low point, but a moment of redemption for him.

In the heart of the series Demon Slayer, Akaza appears as an emblem of strength and ferocity. However, in his last breaths, Akaza reveals a tender part of himself hidden beneath his aggressive demeanor. For a fleeting instant, even a demon like Akaza demonstrates the capacity to reclaim their humanity and cease combat.
