Fans of the classic series “King of the Hill” are in for a treat! Today marks the day to return to Arlen as the entire 10-episode revival (dubbed season 14) is now streaming. It’s been over 15 years since new episodes were aired, so let out a Peggy Hill “Ho Yeah!” for pure excitement!
In the upcoming season, most key characters from the original lineup are coming back to their respective roles. This includes Mike Judge reprising his character Hank Hill, as well as Boomhauer, who is known for his rapid speech. Kathy Najimy returns as Peggy, Pamela Adlon plays Bobby, Stephen Root takes on Bill, and both Lauren Tom (as Minh) and Connie Souphanousinphone are back too. Unfortunately, Johnny Hardwick, the original voice actor for Dale, passed away before finishing his lines, but Toby Huss, another veteran of “King of the Hill,” has stepped in to fill that role now.
Instead of other rebooted animated series that maintain a fantasy-like style, King of the Hill, true to form, adopts a more authentic narrative approach for its comeback. The latest season finds Hank and Peggy, who have been absent for years in Saudi Arabia, returning to Arlen, offering a glimpse into Hank’s past life. As Hank readjusts to the changes he’s missed, one of his main challenges is rebuilding a bond with his son Bobby, who has become a sushi chef residing in Dallas. This innovative revival strategy gives the show a fresh feel while preserving its endearing essence. It might also be a clever way to handle the absence of characters Luanne and Lucky, whose voice actors, Brittany Murphy (deceased in 2009) and Tom Petty (deceased in 2017), are no longer with us.

Despite having only 10 episodes in the new season, every character appears set to have their moment in the limelight once more, with narratives that mirror contemporary society. Just like its initial run on King of the Hill, the show doesn’t shy away from discussing current events. It follows then that the characters will face fresh hurdles, such as Hank and Bobby joining a home brewing contest where they clash over beer preferences (“I’ve been drinking beer for 40 years, but I never once wished it tasted more like fruit”), and Hank taking his half-brother GH (who was just an infant in the original series; ‘GH’ stands for ‘Good Hank’) to a men’s camp.
The fourteenth season of “King of the Hill” has been a massive success, earning a perfect 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes with a 92% audience approval as well. Fans are overjoyed at the revival of one of Fox’s top-tier animated series, and there’s hope that more episodes will follow. In this era filled with exciting new episodes of “South Park,” fresh seasons of “Futurama” and “Solar Opposites,” it’s a pleasant change to step away from the sci-fi and humor for a while and spend some more time in a quaint Texas town, you betcha.
King of the Hill season 14 is now streaming on Hulu and Disney Plus.
