But as details about the DLC surfaced, a surprise was in store: Wheatflour Wonderland will emphasize RPG-like elements, including complex environmental puzzles and the option for players to metamorphose into various characters and objects.
Wheatflour Wonderland Puts An RPG Spin On This Cozy Game
The latest expansion of “Hello Kitty Island Adventure” is named “Wheatflour Wonderland.” This vast new world showcases fields of waving wheat and enigmatic magic. The fairy Cogimyun aids players in unlocking an array of magical wands and gemstones that enable transformations into various Critters or objects, each boasting unique abilities. A recently shown trailer during the Nintendo Direct broadcast highlights one such transformation: the player character acquiring temporary flight by transforming into a chicken-like creature called Rockadoodler.
In the teaser for the DLC named “Wheatflour Wonderland,” images hint at a minimum of five distinct gem types that players can gather, each potentially symbolizing unique powers or skills. These powers will be employed to conquer environmental challenges and discover new prizes, such as outfits, decorative items, and enigmatic “Wheathearts.” Unlike its predecessor, “Hello Kitty Island Adventure,” which offers special tools like the Mermaidifer for underwater diving or Retsuko’s lava swimming ability, “Wheatflour Wonderland” emphasizes new powers and environmental puzzles, making it lean more towards role-playing game (RPG) elements rather than its usual relaxing gameplay style.
Wheatflour Wonderland Draws More From Open-World RPGs Than Stardew-Like Games
During a question-and-answer session on the official Discord for Hello Kitty Island Adventure, Chelsea Howe, the Chief Product Officer at Sunblink, shared that open-world games played a significant role in the creation of Wheatflour Wonderland. She drew parallels between the environmental puzzles featured in the upcoming DLC and the Korok puzzles found in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild or the totem puzzles in Genshin Impact. The comparison to The Legend of Zelda is quite fitting, as the new transformation abilities in Wheatflour Wonderland bear resemblance to Link’s masks in Majora’s Mask and the echoes that Zelda can create in Echoes of Wisdom.
In Wheatflower Wonderland, elements akin to Stardew Valley and other related games won’t disappear entirely. Instead, they’ll be subtly interwoven. The DLC has divulged that flower-growing will resume, and a fresh bloom named the “Wheatflower” is set to grace the landscape. Additionally, Cogimyun’s control over flour enables players to concoct numerous appetizing recipes, including wheat noodles. Lastly, personalization through outfit and furniture collection for both player and Visitor Cabins has been confirmed as a key aspect of Wheatflower Wonderland, with Cogimyun getting her own themed set similar to previously introduced characters like Hello Kitty and Big Challenges.
