Most Underused Breathing Styles In Demon Slayer

The anime “Demon Slayer” features memorable breathing techniques that are thrilling during intense fight scenes. Tanjiro has demonstrated the strength of both Water and Sun Breathing, while other characters have gotten chances to display their unique breathing styles as well.

Although several methods presented within the series receive limited screen time, demonstrating their techniques just a couple of times before fading into obscurity. It’s regrettable that these potentially powerful styles didn’t have more opportunities to shine and could have significantly contributed to some of the most thrilling Demon Slayer battles.

Flame Breathing

Rengoku Had One Arc To Show Off His Moves With This Breathing Style

  • Known User(s): Shinjuro Rengoku, Kyojuro Rengoku

As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but sing the praises of Rengoku from Demon Slayer! His captivating charm truly adds an extra layer of excitement to the Mugen Train arc for us fans. While Tanjiro and Inosuke were duking it out with Enmu, Rengoku didn’t have to dazzle us too much with his Fire Breathing techniques. But boy, did things take a darker turn when weary demon slayers like myself found ourselves under attack by Akaza!

In an attempt to save the young demon slayers, Rengoku bravely charged into battle, showcasing some of his most formidable Fire Breathing skills. Yet, no matter how hard he tried, Akaza proved to be too powerful. Not even his strongest move could defeat the Upper Rank Three, who struck a lethal blow through Rengoku’s chest, leading to his tragic demise. Consequently, Fire Breathing was never featured again in the series.

Moon Breathing

Kokushibo Showed The Powers Of This Breathing Style In One Fight

  • Known User(s): Michikatsu Tsugikuni/Kokushibo

Michikatsu often found himself overshadowed by his brother, Yoriichi, in the art of Moon Breathing, as his skills consistently fell short compared to his brother’s Sun Breathing. Seeking a change, he ultimately accepted Muzan’s proposition and transformed into the Upper Rank One Demon known as the Moon.

Kokushibo’s formidable strength becomes evident when he uses the corrupted version of Moon Breathing, an incredibly potent technique that results in numerous deaths among the Demon Slayers. These brave warriors exerted immense effort to vanquish this mighty Demon Moon, who displayed multiple variations of Moon Breathing before ultimately being defeated.

Flower Breathing

The Hashira Was Dead Before The Show Began, And Kanao Is The Only Alive Demon Slayer To Use This Style

  • Known User(s): Kanae Kocho, Kanao Tsuyuri

In the time preceding the storyline of Demon Slayer, Shinobu Kocho’s sister crossed paths with Doma during her journeys. Despite being a powerful Flower Hashira, she was unable to overcome this formidable opponent and lost her life. The tragedy of Kanae’s demise deeply affected both Shinobu and Kanao, leading Kanao to dedicate herself to the study of Flower Breathing, following in her sister’s footsteps.

Although this breathing technique holds immense power, it’s unfortunate that Kanao could demonstrate its skills merely once while battling Doma. Regardless, the maneuvers are truly breathtaking to witness, with Final Form: Equinoctial Vermilion Eye standing out as a key moment, significantly improving a combatant’s awareness.

Sound Breathing

Tengen Retired After A Hellacious Fight Against The Upper Six Demon Moon Duo

  • Known User(s): Tengen Uzui

Following the Mugen Train events, Tanjiro and his companions embark on a journey with Tengen Uzui into the Entertainment District. His objective was to locate some missing assets, and he utilized the Sound Breathing technique’s echolocation to provide a sneak peek of what was ahead for viewers. Upon Daki and Gyutaro’s involvement in the fight, Tengen swiftly showcased his abilities as the Sound Hashira.

As I watched, it became evident that the array of skills he exhibited was a formidable challenge for the Upper Rank Six duo. Even when Gyutaro managed to amputate one arm, Tengen and Tanjiro teamed up, ultimately severing their opponent’s head in a breathtaking conclusion. Regrettably, his wounds proved too extensive, leading him to relinquish his position as a Hashira, thereby making this arc the unique instance where fans could witness Sound Breathing in action.

Wind Breathing

Sanemi Is A Rough Hashira Who Gives Fans A Taste Of This Style In An Intense Battle

  • Known User(s): Masachika Kumeno, Sanemi Shinazugawa

Sanemi might appear as a cold, brutal individual who mistreats his sibling, but there are layers to this character that viewers haven’t yet discovered. These aspects will come to light in Infinity Castle, unveiling the full depth of his Wind Breathing abilities.

Enthusiasts have merely had brief glimpses of his skillset, which means the anticipation for his encounters is likely to be excruciatingly long. Witnessing Idaten Typhoon techniques brought to life by Ufotable’s talent promises a visually stunning spectacle that fans will undoubtedly relish.

Serpent Breathing

Infinity Castle Lets Obanai And His Breathing Style Shine

  • Known User(s): Obanai Iguro

In the anime “Demon Slayer,” Obanai initially appears as a seemingly cold and calculating character, much like a serpent. However, his affection for Mitsuri becomes evident, softening his icy exterior. Furthermore, he exhibits glimpses of his Serpent Breathing technique, where his unique sword twists and coils around, striking enemies from unexpected angles, mimicking the movements of a snake.

The intriguing aspect of Obanai’s breathing style in the Infinity Castle arc is undoubtedly worth watching, even though it might not get many opportunities to shine. However, anime enthusiasts will soon discover that Obanai skillfully uses Serpent Breathing to take on the series’ most formidable foes.
