Bend Studio, owned by Sony Interactive Entertainment, seems to be working on a new game, marking more than six years since the release of “Days Gone”. The team behind the popular 2019 action-adventure survival horror game, “Days Gone”, is currently searching for an experienced creative director to lead an undisclosed upcoming project.
Bend Studio initially made its mark during the early ’90s by creating games for PCs and Apple computers, such as Dell Crossword Puzzles and Live Action Football. It found success, however, when it moved on to developing games for the original PlayStation in 1996, eventually getting bought by Sony in 2000. The studio’s latest original game, Days Gone, was published in 2019, but it has regained prominence following the release of the Days Gone Remastered for PlayStation 5 this past April.
Sony’s Bend Studio May Have a New Game in the Works
A job posting on Greenhouse by PlayStation is seeking a creative director for developing their upcoming title, currently being made at Bend Studio. The details about this project are scarce in the job listing, but it seems likely that the game will feature multiplayer elements due to one of the requirements asking for candidates with experience in multiplayer game development. While some may think of Bend Studio as primarily single-player (like Days Gone or Uncharted series on PlayStation Vita), they have previously created multiplayer games, such as those in the Syphon Filter franchise.

A potential new game could indicate that things are improving at the development studio, as it may have recently weathered a wave of layoffs and studio closures across the industry that peaked during the summer. Specifically, Bend Studio experienced layoffs in June, affecting around 40 employees or approximately 30% of its workforce.

Besides the unfortunate information previously mentioned, a rumor surfaced in July suggesting that Bend Studio had scrapped several unpublished projects. Subsequent layoffs at the studio led a former employee to update their LinkedIn profile, stating they worked on “Various canceled/unannounced projects,” including working on open-world events, missions, puzzles, and systems development. Previously, reports from January indicated that PlayStation had abandoned two live-service games in production, with one of these games being allegedly led by Bend Studio.
