As a gamer, I’m really noticing how strange game prices are these days. It feels like big new games are getting more and more expensive – $70 is quickly becoming the norm, and even Nintendo is pushing prices higher with titles like *Mario Kart World*. But, weirdly, gaming is also *more* affordable than ever before. Services like PlayStation Plus are a big reason why – you can access so many games for a monthly fee, which is awesome!
As a PlayStation Plus member, I love that for a small monthly fee, I get access to a ton of games – a lot of them are brand new or pretty recent releases. But honestly, it’s kinda changed how people buy games. I’ve noticed some newer, especially indie, games aren’t selling as well because people are grabbing stuff from PS Plus instead. And let’s be real, having so many games available makes it even *harder* to actually finish the ones I already own! That’s why I’m sharing these recommendations – I want to help my fellow gamers tackle their backlogs and actually play the games we’re collecting.
On September 19th, PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium members can look forward to several new games, such as *Persona 5 Tactica* and *Crow Country*.
Earth Defense Force 6
Available on PS Plus Extra
While *Helldivers 2* is getting a lot of attention for its massive, alien bugs, the *Earth Defense Force* series has been battling similar creatures for years. Don’t expect a serious, realistic experience like *Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2*. Instead, *Helldivers 2* offers over-the-top action with huge lasers, chaotic friendly fire, and hilarious ragdoll effects. Honestly, it’s one of the most ridiculous games I’ve ever played – and that’s a good thing! It’s nearly impossible to play this wild, goofy game without cracking a smile.
Honestly, the best part of *Earth Defense Force 6* is playing with a friend. Whether we’re on the couch or online, teaming up just makes the game so much more chaotic and fun – it’s where the game really shines!
- How long to beat Earth Defense Force 6: 40–70 hours.
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End
Available on PS Plus Extra
It pains me to say it, but *Uncharted* is becoming a classic franchise. If Naughty Dog doesn’t make another *Uncharted* game soon, younger players might only know it as a movie series, which would be a shame.
Each *Uncharted* game offers something unique, but I think *Uncharted 4* is the best one. It not only features the most engaging and fluid gameplay in a series known for its simple mechanics, but it also tells the strongest story. While previous games felt like fun, lighthearted *Indiana Jones* adventures, *Uncharted 4* delves into more complex and grown-up themes. Beneath the exciting treasure hunt, it offers thoughtful explorations of love, relationships, obsession, and family. It’s not groundbreaking art, but it’s definitely a step above the earlier games.
- How long to beat Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End: 15–30 hours.
This War of Mine
Available on PS Plus Extra
Before creating acclaimed games like *Frostpunk* and *The Alters*, 11 Bit Studios made a significant impact with *This War of Mine*. This game offers a unique take on the survival genre by telling the story of war through the eyes of civilians, not soldiers. It emphasizes that survival in wartime always comes at a cost, and every loss has consequences. By using familiar survival game mechanics, 11 Bit Studios delivers a raw and honest portrayal of human hardship and resilience, making *This War of Mine* a standout title among games that explore the realities of war.
- How long to beat This War of Mine: 11–43 hours.
