Each *Borderlands* game is full of hidden jokes and references to other parts of pop culture. In *Borderlands 4*, players can encounter Shrek and Donkey, characters from the famous Dreamworks movies, as special enemies. You can actually find this Shrek easter egg fairly early on in the game.
Once you finish the game’s introduction, you’ll be able to explore Shrek’s swamp thanks to the open-world design of *Borderlands 4*. While you won’t find powerful weapons to collect right away, Shrek the ogre is guarding a key item. Here’s how to locate Shrek and Donkey in *Borderlands 4*.
How to Find the Shrek Easter Egg in Borderlands 4
A fun Easter egg referencing Shrek can be found in *Borderlands 4*. It’s hidden in Mirehome, a location near Fortress Indomita and the Wyclef’s Reprieve safe house, both within Idolator’s Noose on the southern part of the game map. Because Mirehome is in the Fadefields – the game’s starting area – you won’t face many enemies while traveling there.
When you get to Mirehome, you’ll find a narrow path with ‘keep out’ signs – don’t pay attention to them and follow it. This will lead you to a hidden spot where you’ll be ambushed by Wreck, a large, green ogre. He has dangerous, acid-based weapons and can try to pull you close with a hook, so it’s best to stay far away from him.
After you beat Wreck, you’ll face his accomplice, Burro. Unlike typical bosses, neither Wreck nor Burro drop any unique items, so you only need to defeat them once – there’s no need to keep fighting them repeatedly.
Once you’ve defeated the enemies in the swamp, find the body behind Wreck and collect the Till Death Do Us Part ECHO Log. This log is one of several you’ll need to find to fully complete Borderlands 4. After listening to the recording, head back the way you came to leave the swamp.
This Easter egg doesn’t unlock any extra missions or rewards, so you only need to revisit Mirehome if you want to show off Wreck and Burro to others. Luckily, there’s an Order Bunker close by where you can find some really powerful gear. This is a great place to hunt for top-tier legendary weapons in *Borderlands 4*.
