EA has clarified that disabling crossplay in Battlefield 6 will restrict players to matchmaking only with others on the same platform. Initially, EA indicated that turning off crossplay would let console players continue playing with friends on PlayStation and Xbox. However, this will no longer be true when the game launches on October 10th.
A key feature of the upcoming *Battlefield 6* is crossplay, which lets players on different platforms play together. While you can choose whether or not to enable it, turning crossplay on will help you find matches faster because it expands the number of players you can connect with. Disabling it will mean fewer players and longer wait times. Only console players can toggle this setting; PC players will always have crossplay enabled. To play online multiplayer on consoles, you’ll also need an active PlayStation Network or Xbox Game Pass subscription.
EA Clarifies Battlefield 6 Crossplay Functionality
With the release of *Battlefield 6* just over three weeks away, EA has clarified how crossplay will work. While it was previously suggested that PlayStation and Xbox players could play together even with crossplay turned off, that’s not the case. Turning off crossplay will limit matches to only PlayStation or only Xbox players. However, console players will generally be matched with each other before the game includes PC players. This clarifies a previous statement and confirms that crossplay remains optional for players on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
The debate around crossplay – letting players on consoles and PCs play together in games like *Battlefield 6* – mainly comes down to the advantages PC players have. They can use keyboard and mouse for more precise aiming, often have better computer hardware, and unfortunately, can sometimes use cheats that aren’t possible on consoles. These factors give PC players a clear edge over console players.
EA and the team making *Battlefield 6* are still working on ways to fight cheating and lessen its effects on the game’s online multiplayer. There’s talk that *Battlefield 6* might include a separate Battle Royale mode, and it’s currently unknown if players will be able to play together across different platforms in that mode.
