Summary
- Devil Fruits in One Piece can also be used for healing purposes, not just attacks.
- Unique healing abilities of Devil Fruits like Horu Horu no Mi and Chiyu Chiyu no Mi.
- Healing powers come with consequences, such as lifespan reduction or limitations.
In the anime and manga series *One Piece*, Devil Fruits are famous for the powerful attacks they grant. But some also offer helpful abilities beyond just offense, and healing is a particularly valuable one that often gets overlooked.
In a battle-heavy series like *One Piece*, being able to heal is incredibly valuable. Certain Devil Fruits stand out for their healing abilities. Some allow users or their friends to quickly recover and rejoin fights, while others focus on longer-term recovery after battles are over.
5. Emporio Ivanokov: Horu Horu no Mi
Hormonal Healing
This Devil Fruit gives its user the power to create hormones, letting them change their own body and the bodies of others. Emporio Ivankov has demonstrated this ability in many ways, including changing their own and others’ genders, and even dramatically increasing the size of their head as a weapon.
Emporio’s hormones can help with healing, but they have some drawbacks. For instance, Emporio can use hormones to influence adrenaline levels, which can ease tension and improve movement. However, after the initial relief, users may experience nausea and fatigue.
Emporio possesses hormones capable of manipulating the immune system, which proved life-saving for Monkey D. Luffy. After being repeatedly poisoned by Magellan, Luffy was near death, with only a day to live. While Emporio’s hormones rescued him, they came at a cost – ten years of his lifespan. The hormones don’t directly heal; instead, they boost the body’s natural ability to fight off illness, meaning a strong will to live is crucial for their effectiveness. Ivankov can also use these hormones on themself, combining them with other energies as a defense against Magellan’s powerful poison.
4. Princess Mansherry: Chiyu Chiyu no Mi
Liquid Health
Princess Mansherry of the Tontatta Kingdom is a kind and gentle dwarf. Her special ability comes from the Chiyu Chiyu no Mi, a Devil Fruit that lets her heal people with her tears. Currently, it seems to work best on fatigue and pushing past physical limits, though it’s not yet known if it can cure serious illnesses.
Mansherry’s power has limitations, though exactly what those are isn’t known. This Devil Fruit is incredibly potent, capable of even restoring damaged structures, but using it shortens the user’s life. The power can also be forced upon the user, like when Giolla tried to make Mansherry cry to heal her injured crew. Leo, a friend of Mansherry’s, suggested the fruit could heal her too, but he’s not the most perceptive, so that might not be correct.
3. Bartholomew Kuma: Nikyu Nikyu no Mi
Healing Hands
The Nikyu Nikyu no Mi is a Devil Fruit that lets the user send anything they touch with their paw-printed hands flying through the air. This means they can launch people – even themselves – or physically remove things from a person’s body. When something is removed, it turns into a bubble. Bartholomew Kuma, who used to be a pastor, once used this fruit to remove things like pain and tiredness from people. However, he didn’t make those feelings disappear; instead, they appeared as bubbles.
Zoro demonstrated his unwavering loyalty to Luffy by willingly taking on Luffy’s pain, which was transferred through one of Kuma’s bubbles. The game *One Piece Pirate Warriors 3* suggests Kuma can get rid of his own pain this way, but it’s never clearly shown in the official story. Considering Kuma’s selfless personality, it seems unlikely he would ever intentionally make someone else suffer for him.
2. Marco: Tori Tori no Mi, Model: Phoenix
Rise From The Ashes
The Tori Tori no Mi, Model: Phoenix is a powerful Devil Fruit that grants the user the incredible healing abilities of the mythical phoenix. Those who eat the fruit can generate blue flames that rapidly heal injuries. Marco, a former member of the Whitebeard Pirates, has survived countless near-fatal attacks thanks to his exceptional regenerative powers. He can also heal others, and after retiring from piracy, he became a doctor on the Sphinx, utilizing this skill. His flames even seem to cure illnesses. While he can heal others, his self-healing ability is significantly stronger.
Although we still don’t know the full extent of Marco’s abilities, certain moments in the story reveal what he *can’t* do. His old captain, Whitebeard, suffered from declining health as he aged, and Marco wasn’t able to heal him despite his powers. This is suggested by the extensive medical attention Whitebeard needed towards the end of his life.
1. Trafalgar D. Water Law: Ope Ope no Mi
Surgically Gifted
The Ope Ope no Mi is a powerful and dangerous Devil Fruit. It lets the user manipulate a person’s internal organs, even removing them, and can be lethal. Despite its frightening power, it also has incredible healing abilities, potentially curing any disease. However, effective healing relies heavily on the user’s medical expertise, as the fruit seems to operate based on scientific and medical principles. It’s no surprise that Trafalgar Law, the fruit’s user, comes from a family of doctors and received extensive medical training from a young age.
Law overcame a deadly disease called Amber Lead Syndrome, which had devastated his hometown of Flevance and claimed the lives of his family. He also used his abilities to cure children on Punk Hazard who were suffering from drug addiction and poisoning, before they were handed over to the Marines. Beyond what he’s shown, his Devil Fruit power could potentially grant someone eternal youth through a procedure called the Perennial Youth Operation, but performing it would cost the user their own life.
