It’s wild to think that Santa Monica Studio actually considered setting the 2018 reboot there originally, but they ended up going with Norse mythology. But now, according to Tom Henderson – a really reliable source – it sounds like Egypt might *finally* be happening! He said on his podcast that Kratos will be using a curved Egyptian sword in the next big *God of War* game, which is incredibly exciting if true. I’m really hoping we get to explore Egyptian mythology next!
The sword Kratos now wields resembles either a scimitar or a khopesh, strongly suggesting the next *God of War* game will take place in Egypt. While Egyptian themes have appeared in past games, *God of War (2018)* and *God of War Ragnarok* included more obvious references through items and weapons – Tyr even used khopesh swords in the *Valhalla* DLC. Plus, the *God of War: Fallen God* comic is specifically set in Egypt, detailing Kratos’ adventures between Greece and Norse mythology.
Considering everything we know, it looks like the *God of War* series has been hinting at a future game set in Egypt. However, after the story of *God of War Ragnarok*, the next main game might focus on Atreus as the main character, with Kratos playing a smaller role.
