Best Open-World Survival RPGs

I’ve chosen these games based on a few key features. They all have to be open-world, meaning you can freely explore a large environment. They also need to include survival elements, like managing hunger, thirst, and building shelter. Finally, they should have some role-playing game (RPG) aspects, at least including character stats and the ability to improve skills. While it’s rare for a game to perfectly meet all these requirements, I’ve allowed some flexibility, particularly with the RPG elements. I’ll be ranking these games based on how well they’ve been received on Steam.

Cut Intro From Resident Evil 4 Remake Had You Play As Ashley

The 2023 version of Resident Evil 4 had big shoes to fill, considering how beloved the 2005 original was. Luckily, the remake was a critical success, quickly becoming the best-selling game in the Resident Evil series. Like other recent Resident Evil remakes, it successfully updated the gameplay while staying true to the spirit of the original. Resident Evil 4 especially impressed players with its deeper exploration of the relationship between Leon and Ashley, and Capcom’s improvements to the often-frustrating escort missions. Interestingly, the game almost featured a completely different opening sequence.

New Steam Horror Game is Like Silent Hill Meets No, I’m Not a Human

A key part of what makes the indie horror game No, I’m Not a Human so engaging is the difficult choices players face when deciding who to let inside their home. The game forces you to assess whether characters are actually humans or dangerous Visitors, often presenting conflicting clues. Pathologic 3 uses a similar system to build tension and create a haunting atmosphere reminiscent of Silent Hill.

Stranger Things’ Season 5 finale is either genius or Game of Thrones Season 8 all over again, and it hinges on one nutty theory

I wasn’t expecting much from the final season of Stranger Things after watching the first part, and especially the second. The show was incredible when it first came out – a perfect blend of science fiction and Dungeons & Dragons that I absolutely loved. But for me, Season 1 was the high point, with only a few moments in Seasons 3 and 4 coming close to that level. I didn’t feel very invested in Season 5, and the finale was ultimately a letdown. It didn’t deliver on its promise of providing closure, and actually left me with even more questions than answers. I was particularly surprised by four specific things that seemed minor at first.
