Fans are excited for the upcoming anime adaptation of *JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run*, set to release next year. Warner Bros. recently shared a short teaser trailer, and a big highlight for many was the announcement of the Japanese voice actors who will be bringing the characters to life. The animation and art style also look promising.
David Production consistently finds fantastic voice actors for each *JoJo* series, and this time will be no different. However, some viewers might be curious about who these actors are and where they’ve worked before. Here are a few examples of their previous roles, demonstrating they’re well-prepared to embody the memorable characters of *Steel Ball Run*.
Shogo Sakata As Johnny Joestar
Other Roles: Aki In Chainsaw Man, Majestic In My Hero Academia
Shogo Sakata, a rising voice actor, will be voicing Johnny Joestar, the main character of *Steel Ball Run*. While Sakata has been working since 2017, he first gained significant recognition for his role as Aki Hayakawa in the *Chainsaw Man* anime. Interestingly, this makes him the second *Chainsaw Man* cast member to play a JoJo character, following Farouz Ai, who voiced Jolyne Cujoh in *Stone Ocean*. Before this, Sakata also had a smaller role as the hero Enma Kannagi (Majestic) in *My Hero Academia*.
The actor’s single line in the trailer suggests he’s a great fit for the energetic young character of Johnny, though the role is demanding as Johnny becomes a very complex character. Fans of *JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure* were surprised that Yuki Kaji, who previously voiced Johnny in two video games, wasn’t brought back for the anime. However, Kaji had already voiced another major character, Koichi Hirose, in the *Diamond is Unbreakable* anime, so the studio likely decided to cast a new actor for this role.
Yohei Azakami As Gyro Zeppeli
Other Roles: Deathpierce In The Seven Deadly Sins, Guel Jeturk In The Witch from Mercury
Yohei Azakami will voice Gyro Zeppeli, Johnny’s important ally and a main character in *Steel Ball Run*. He’s a great choice for the role! Azakami has a rough, deep voice that captures Gyro’s mysterious, lone wanderer vibe (you can hear it in the trailer with his famous “Nyo-Ho!”). He can also sound playful and funny, which is perfect for Gyro’s comedic moments and silly behavior.
Azakami has been a working voice actor for over ten years, but he’s generally played supporting roles. His recent performance as Guel Jeturk in the 2022 anime *Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury* has significantly boosted his popularity. While many anime fans might recognize his voice from shows like *The Seven Deadly Sins* (as Deathpierce) or *Aggretsuko* (as Himuro), this latest role is arguably the biggest of his career.
Kaito Ishikawa As Diego Brando
Other Roles: Jiji In Dandadan, Iida In My Hero Academia, Genos In One Punch Man
Takehito Koyasu’s portrayal of Dio Brando is widely considered a landmark performance that significantly influenced the anime world. Many *JoJo* fans hoped he would reprise his role as Diego Brando in the *Steel Ball Run* anime, especially since he had previously voiced Dio’s alternate version in the *All Star Battle* and *Eyes of Heaven* games. Although that didn’t happen, fans are still thrilled with the incredible voice actor who was ultimately cast in the part.
Kaito Ishikawa is a well-known voice actor and a popular member of the *Steel Ball Run* cast. He’s voiced many characters in hit anime series, including Iida Tenya in *My Hero Academia* and Genos in *One Punch Man*. Recently, he impressed audiences with his role as Jin Enjoji/Evil Eye in *Dandadan*. He even has experience with the *JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure* franchise, having voiced Sale in *Vento Aureo* (Part 5). With his extensive experience and vocal talent, Ishikawa is perfectly suited to play this popular character, and his voice in the teaser trailer even resembles that of Takehito Koyasu.
Rie Takahashi As Lucy Steel
Other Roles: Ai Hoshino In Oshi No Ko, Emilia In Re:Zero, Megumin In KonoSuba
I’m so excited about this cast! Right now, Rie Takahashi is the only female voice actor announced, and she’s going to play Lucy Steel. Honestly, I think she might be the biggest name attached to the project! She’s become incredibly popular recently thanks to voicing some amazing characters like Emilia from *Re:Zero* and the hilarious Megumin from *KonoSuba*. She’s seriously fantastic!
Takahashi is a skilled voice actress and singer, as demonstrated by her performance as Ai Hoshino in *Oshi no Ko*. Her work as Lucy Steel is already impressive, capturing a youthful and innocent quality with her voice. Given Lucy’s important role in the story, Takahashi has the potential to deliver a truly standout performance in the *JoJo* anime, possibly one of the best ever seen in the series.
Kenta Miyake As Steven Steel
Other Roles: Avdol In Stardust Crusaders, All Might In My Hero Academia, Scar In Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Good news for *JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure* fans: veteran voice actor Kenta Miyake will be playing Steven Steel, the organizer of the Steel Ball Run race. Miyake previously voiced Muhammad Avdol in *Stardust Crusaders*, a hugely popular character from Part 3, and will now use his distinctive, strong voice to portray Steel.
Wow, I’m a huge fan of Christopher Sabat’s work, and it’s amazing how versatile he is! He’s not just known for one iconic role – he *also* voiced All Might in *My Hero Academia* and Scar in *Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood*, both fan-favorite characters! Speaking of character development, Steven is a perfect example. He starts out seeming pretty simple and even unlikeable, but he really blossoms into someone complex and interesting. Miyake absolutely nails the performance, especially in those really intense, emotional moments later on. I honestly think he’ll make viewers truly believe that Steven Steel is a genuinely great guy.
