This article contains potential spoilers for One Piece’s Elbaf arc.
The Elbaf arc in *One Piece* is incredibly mysterious, and arguably one of the most intriguing in the series. As the story has unfolded, we’ve learned a lot of important details about the past and gained a better understanding of why certain characters made the choices they did. This is especially true when it comes to Loki, the prince of the island.
The Giant seems tough and aggressive on the outside, but he’s actually very sad, and that sadness is the main reason he does what he does. In the world of *One Piece*, Loki only has one friend: a mysterious person named Mosa, who has been communicating with him via Transponder Snail for years. This article will explore the most likely candidates for the identity of this secret friend.
Many Think That Elder Jarul May Have Been Mosa This Whole Time
The Current Leader Of Elbaf
First Appearance | One Piece, Chapter 866, “Natural Born Destroyer” |

Story Arc | Wholecake Island |
- A very likely option.
It increasingly looks like Oda is setting us up to believe Jarul is actually Mosa. Many fans think this is a red herring – a deliberate attempt to mislead us, as the obvious answer is rarely correct. However, Jarul is a strong candidate based on what we’ve seen, particularly in the Elbaf flashback, which sheds light on his character and what Elbaf was like in the past in the world of *One Piece*.
I’m too old for this stuff. Politics is a young man’s game.
This memory reveals Jarul was a trusted friend to the late King Harald. We also see he was one of the few people on Elbaf who didn’t fear or dislike Loki, and they even spoke amicably. Mosa’s final message – a warning that enemies are approaching – occurs right as Jarul and his group are attacked by Imu’s forces, leading many to believe this confirms Jarul’s true identity.
Ida Is Yet Another Very Likely Option Due To Her Caring Nature For Loki
She Always Cared For Loki
First Appearance | One Piece, Chapter 1153, “The Birth of Loki” |
---|---|
Story Arc | Elbaf |
- Ida was one of the few people who actually cared for Loki.
Long before Loki’s birth, King Harald had a relationship with Ida, a giantess from the distant Samuwanai Island, near Elbaf. Their son was Hajrudin. However, Elbaf’s traditions prevented Harald from marrying Ida and bringing her to the castle, though he continued to support her on the island. Ida later opened a bar in Elbaf’s criminal district and maintained a close relationship with the king.
If you abandon Loki, I’ll drown you a hundred times!
Ida raised Loki as her son, even though he constantly insulted and distrusted her. This, combined with the mystery surrounding her eventual fate, has led many fans to speculate that she might be Mosa. They believe her nurturing side, and the fact that she consistently treated Loki with kindness – unlike most others who saw him as a monster – makes her a strong candidate for the character’s true identity.
Princess Shirahoshi May Have Been In Contact With Loki All This Time
A Popular Fan Theory
First Appearance | One Piece, Chapter 612, “Taken By The Shark They Saved” |
---|---|
Story Arc | Fishman Island |
- An unconventional theory that lines up well.
The idea that Mosa might actually be Shirahoshi is becoming increasingly popular among fans, despite some skepticism. While the evidence isn’t always concrete, many have pointed out striking similarities between the two characters. Additionally, things Mosa has communicated through the Transponder Snail hint at a possible link to Shirahoshi.
It feels like I’ve known you since I was a kid, even though we just met for the first time…
Okay, so the stuff with Mosa and Loki in the Elbaf arc *really* got me thinking! Mosa was sharing this awful experience they went through, and Loki’s response – saying he’d ‘kill them all’ if it were him – feels huge. A lot of us think he’s referencing the Reverie, specifically the attack on Shirahoshi and the Celestial Dragons trying to kidnap her. It just fits! Plus, I’ve been pondering Mosa’s line about ‘them coming.’ It feels like Oda is intentionally throwing us off the scent, making us focus on Elbaf when the real threat might be somewhere else entirely. And with Caribou joining Blackbeard, it’s starting to click that they might have targeted Fishman Island to snatch Poseidon – Shirahoshi! That could be what Mosa was hinting at all along. It’s a wild theory, but it’s making so much sense to me!
Davy D. Xebec Could Still Be Alive And Be The True Identity Of Mosa
The Greatest Pirate In History
First Appearance | One Piece, Chapter 957, “Ultimate” |
---|---|
Story Arc | Wano |
- Possibly one of the greatest twists in the entire series.
A surprising theory suggests that Mosa is actually the famous pirate, Davy D. Xebec. While most fans believe Xebec died at God Valley, a growing number think he somehow survived, possibly with help from a key character in the series.
There we have it! Loki has been seriously hurt!
The bond between Xebec and King Harald was unusual, but many fans already consider it one of the best friendships in *One Piece*. Although it was believed Xebec died at God Valley, this theory suggests Harald rescued him while he was near death, taking him to Elbaf and the currently unexplored Heaven Realm. While it’s a long shot, this would be an amazing plot twist.
One Piece can be streamed on Crunchyroll.
