This article contains spoilers from One Piece’s Elbaf Arc.
The current arc of *One Piece*, focusing on Loki’s backstory within the Elbaf arc, has been incredibly captivating. Fans didn’t anticipate a full reveal of the God Valley Incident, but Eiichiro Oda has delivered, exceeding all expectations. Chapter 1161 showcased some of the most thrilling battles from that event, and importantly, it began to clarify the power levels of various characters within the *One Piece* universe.
As a huge One Piece fan, I was blown away by chapter 1161! It really dug into what happened at the God Valley Incident and showcased just how unbelievably powerful some of the fighters were. We always suspected it, but Oda finally confirmed it: Garp is on a whole other level! He’s officially stronger than even powerhouses like Big Mom and Kaido. Honestly, any remaining debate is over – Garp is a complete monster, and this chapter made that crystal clear!
Oda Confirms Garp To Be Stronger Than Big Mom and Kaido
Garp Was Able To Tank Big Mom’s Powerful Attacks Easily
- Garp is on the same level as Roger
- Roger was the Pirate King
Chapter 1161 of *One Piece* featured an amazing display of power from Garp. The previous chapter showed Garp arriving at God Valley to battle Roger, and this chapter revealed his confrontation with the most powerful members of the Rocks Pirates. Garp faced off against Big Mom, Kaido, and Whitebeard simultaneously, and he proved to be a formidable opponent, establishing a truly terrifying reputation.
Is that all you got? Those flames can’t even roast a prime rib, Linlin! — Garp to Charlotte Linlin
Big Mom unleashed a massive attack on Garp, using her crew, but it didn’t even faze him. Garp actually scoffed at the attack, saying it wasn’t nearly strong enough to hurt him. Despite facing Big Mom, Whitebeard, and Kaido all at once, they decided not to fight him directly and focused on their own goals instead.
This doesn’t necessarily mean Garp could beat all three of them, but it definitely proves he was at least as strong as Big Mom and a younger Kaido. Since Big Mom and Kaido are often considered equals, it seems Garp could even surpass them, even in their prime years.
Shakky described Garp as a terrifying force to pirates in his prime – someone everyone avoided at all costs.
Garp, Roger, And Rocks Were On A Different Level 38 Years Ago
The Legends Of The Old Era Were Monsters
I just finished reading chapter 1161 of *One Piece*, and Oda really made something clear: Garp is absolutely as powerful as Roger. He explicitly stated in the Elbaf flashback that Garp, Roger, and Rocks were all legendary figures of their time. If anyone still questioned Garp’s strength, this chapter should put those doubts to rest. It’s become undeniable that Roger and Garp were on a completely different level than most of the characters we’ve seen. Only Rocks and Whitebeard seem to be in their league. While Kaido and Big Mom are incredibly strong, they don’t quite reach that same tier – especially considering Kaido lost to Luffy in Gear 5, proving he wasn’t as powerful as these true legends.
The newest chapter of One Piece, Chapter 1161, will be released this week, as usual on Sundays. While it becomes available in Japan at midnight on Monday, most fans around the world will be able to read it on September 28th. The official release date is September 28, 2025, and it will be available to read for free on Manga Plus.
