Dan Houser Comments on Bully 2

For years, fans have wished for a sequel to the popular game *Bully*, and Dan Houser, a co-founder of Rockstar Games, has now explained why *Bully 2* was never made. The original *Bully*, released in 2006, received positive reviews, but the reason we never got a follow-up is a sadly familiar one in the gaming world.

Fans have long hoped Rockstar Games would revisit *Bully*, the popular game about a mischievous schoolboy, with a sequel. Although several games have tried to capture the spirit of *Bully*, a proper follow-up seemed elusive. Now, it appears *Bully 2* never progressed beyond an early, playable prototype, and one of the game’s original developers has recently revealed the reasons why.

Why Didn’t Rockstar Make Bully 2?

During an interview with IGN at Los Angeles Comic Con 2025, Dan Houser, formerly of Rockstar Games, addressed the long-rumored sequel to *Bully*. When asked why *Bully 2* was never made, Houser explained that Rockstar simply didn’t have the time or resources available. The studio prioritized other large-scale projects like *L.A. Noire*, *Red Dead Redemption*, *Max Payne 3*, and *Grand Theft Auto 5*. Afterwards, Rockstar decided to focus on developing one major game at a time, making it difficult to work on multiple sequels concurrently. Ultimately, Houser attributed the cancellation of *Bully 2* to limitations in the studio’s capacity – a small creative and leadership team with limited resources.

Although *Bully 2* was never finished, Rockstar’s other successful sequels, like *Red Dead Redemption 2*, have shown what the studio is capable of. While there’s a small possibility they might revisit the *Bully* series someday, *Grand Theft Auto 6* is currently the main focus, so fans shouldn’t expect *Bully 2* anytime soon.

Gamers frequently lament the many sequels that were planned but never made, and game studios usually cite lack of time or money as the reason these projects are cancelled. Now that the original creators of the popular game Bully have left Rockstar Games, it remains to be seen whether the studio will revisit the classic for a new installment, or if it will remain a forgotten favorite.
