This article contains major spoilers from the Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle movie.
Excitement is building for *Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle*, with *Akaza Returns* now playing in US theaters. Fans are showing huge support for Koyoharu Gotouge’s popular series, making the movie a major anime event this year. After a long wait, fans are finally able to see the first *Infinity Castle* film on the big screen.
The new *Demon Slayer* movie, the first of a three-part story, features a much larger group of characters than the *Mugen Train* film. This includes Tanjiro’s friends, the Hashira, and the remaining Upper Rank demons, all gathered at Muzan’s fortress. Fans have been particularly surprised by how much Kiriya Ubuyashiki’s appearance has changed in this movie compared to his previous look in the anime and manga.

Growing up in the dangerous world of Demon Slayer is tough for any child, but it’s especially hard for Kiriya Ubuyashiki. He has the immense responsibility of leading the Demon Slayer Corps while still very young. His parents, Amane and Kagaya, instilled in him a strong sense of duty, likely knowing he would one day play a vital role in the battle against Muzan and his demons.
Even as a young child, Kiriya Ubuyashiki grasped his responsibilities to his family and the Demon Slayer Corps. His parents, Amane and Kagaya, raised him as a girl and instilled in him a wisdom beyond his years. This is why, during Tanjiro Kamado’s Final Selection, Kiriya appeared as a girl, wearing a purple kimono decorated with delicate flower designs.
Kiriya appeared completely emotionless, like a puppet simply following instructions for his role as an Ubuyashiki. Even when Genya Shinazugawa acted aggressively towards his sister, Kiriya stayed calm and composed, demonstrating a maturity beyond his age.

Viewers of the first Infinity Castle film have been talking about the striking transformation of Kiriya Ubuyashiki. The character, who appeared unsettling during the Final Selection, has completely changed. Now the new leader, or Oyakata, of the Demon Slayer Corps, she presents herself in clothing reminiscent of her late father. Fans have embraced this new version of Kiriya, the 98th master of the Demon Slayers, leaving behind her previous appearance.
Many fans, particularly those who only watch the anime, didn’t realize who Kiriya Ubuyashiki was, and some thought he was a brand new character introduced in the first Infinity Castle movie. It’s important to remember that Amane and Kagaya Ubuyashiki had five children, and Kiriya was their only son, making him the heir to his father’s legacy. He was one of the few survivors of the explosion that destroyed the Ubuyashiki mansion, along with his sisters, Kuina and Kanata.

Kiriya unexpectedly found himself leading the Demon Slayer Corps within the Infinity Castle after losing half of his family. Instead of dwelling on his loss, he immediately focused on understanding and mapping the layout of the Infinity Castle.

Though his time had ended, his spirit lived on in Kiriya, who bravely took on the immense task of leading the Demon Slayer Corps. He approached this role with the same passion, commitment, and honesty as his father, especially during the dangerous battles within the Infinity Castle.
Kiriya plays a vital role in the final battle against Muzan Kibutsuji. Without his guidance, the remaining demon slayers and Hashira would likely lose their resolve, allowing Muzan to capture Nezuko and potentially withstand the sunlight. Kiriya’s sharp mind, excellent memory, calm demeanor, and strong instincts make him a capable leader and an essential asset to the Demon Slayer Corps during this critical fight.
