Insomniac May Be Exactly What X-Men's Dark Phoenix Saga Needs RIght Now

Highlights

  • Insomniac Games could do justice to the iconic Dark Phoenix storyline in their upcoming X-Men game.
  • Fans may finally get a faithful Dark Phoenix adaptation in video games, where films have fallen short.

As a long-time X-Men fan, I have been through the highs and lows of this iconic superhero team. I have watched the movies, read the comics, and played countless video games, but none have quite captured the essence of the Dark Phoenix Saga like I believe Insomniac Games can.

The X-Men franchise in the Marvel Cinematic Universe might not be reaching the heights of the Infinity Saga, but it seems on the brink of an exciting new era. With the introduction of a fresh X-Men team and the anticipated comeback of beloved characters like Deadpool and Wolverine, fans have much to look forward to. Additionally, X-Men: ’97 and Insomniac’s Marvel’s X-Men projects promise thrilling adventures, offering an abundance of content for fans. This influx of new stories also presents an opportunity to rectify one of Fox’s past mistakes in the X-Men series.

Despite Fox’s X-Men film series producing some exceptional superhero movies, it fell short twice in bringing the renowned Dark Phoenix storyline to life. However, with Insomniac yet to announce an X-Men game, there’s a strong sense that they are the ideal candidates to give this classic tale the justice it deserves. Although it might be a while before we see this come to fruition, fans have waited long enough for a well-executed adaptation, and video games could be one of the few avenues to make that happen.

X-Men’s Dark Phoenix Saga Could Thrive In the Video Game Space

The Dark Phoenix Story Hasn’t Had Great Luck With Movies

It’s no hidden fact that the Dark Phoenix saga of the X-Men has faced some challenges in cinematic adaptations. While the first two X-Men films, “X-Men” and “X2: X-Men United,” were praised by critics, the same cannot be said for “X-Men: The Last Stand.” This installment aimed to adapt the Dark Phoenix storyline along with exploring the mutant cure theme. However, this dual focus, combined with some questionable narrative choices, resulted in a disappointing film for many viewers. Consequently, its underwhelming reception led to its continuity being rewritten in “X-Men: Days of Future Past.”

After being disappointed with how he handled the story in the previous version of X-Men, Fox was determined to give it another shot in the revamped X-Men series. X-Men: Dark Phoenix was touted as a more accurate representation than its predecessor, but unfortunately, it failed to excite audiences as well. Several critics deemed it dull and full of untapped potential. Eventually, it became one of the biggest financial flops ever, with many viewers opting to disregard it altogether.

Insomniac Games Could Rectify That

Fox’s two attempts to bring the Dark Phoenix saga to life in film received harsh criticism. Consequently, the upcoming adaptation faces a significant challenge due to this history. However, given that it is a renowned X-Men storyline, Marvel Studios might still give it a shot. Although this could result in an amazing journey, perhaps Insomniac should take charge temporarily instead.

Through “Marvel’s Spider-Man” by Insomniac, we’ve been impressed with their ability to bring Marvel superheroes to life in a respectful and engaging way. They’ve stayed true to the original stories while giving fans an enjoyable Venom experience, which was previously lacking in Sony’s live-action attempts. Considering their success with Spider-Man and his crew, it seems plausible that they could achieve similar results with the X-Men.

As a long-time fan of both Insomniac Games and the X-Men franchise, I can’t help but get excited about the prospect of a potential collaboration between the two. However, I must admit that there is still a great deal of uncertainty surrounding this project. With no official announcement yet, we have very little information to go on.
