The newly launched Hades 2 is proving incredibly popular, receiving high praise from critics and attracting twice as many players on Steam as the original Hades. These figures clearly demonstrate the early success of Supergiant Games’ Hades 2.
The first Hades game came out from Supergiant Games in 2020 and quickly became popular, selling more than a million copies and earning excellent reviews. Last year, a preview version of the sequel was available, and then fans were excited to see Hades 2 officially launch for PC and Switch on September 25, 2025. Just like the original, Hades 2 has been highly praised, achieving an average review score of 93 on OpenCritic.
Hades 2 Has Peaked At Over 112,000 Simultaneous Players on Steam
Shortly after its release, Hades 2 achieved a record high of 112,947 players concurrently on Steam, as reported by SteamDB. This is more than double the player count of the first Hades game, which reached a peak of 54,240 players. With consistently “Overwhelmingly Positive” reviews on Steam, Hades 2 remains incredibly popular with fans, and it’s possible the game will attract even more players over the weekend.
Although Hades 2 has been a big hit, not everything about the game has pleased all players. For instance, the ending of Hades 2 has disappointed some fans, who have found fault with both its idea and how it was carried out. The actual ending was only included in the 1.0 update of Hades 2, and it’s been quite controversial, but this hasn’t significantly harmed the game’s reputation among players.
I was really hoping for Hades 3, but Supergiant Games recently shared that it’s not in the works right now. Apparently, the studio, with Amir Rao leading the way, likes to fully focus on one game at a time – they don’t start planning the *next* game while they’re still making the current one. That doesn’t mean it will *never* happen, just that they aren’t developing it at this moment. It’s a little disappointing, but I totally respect their approach to game development! Fingers crossed for the future though!
It’s likely that Hades 2 will receive some exciting updates in the future, and we can also expect it to be released on more platforms. Currently, Hades 2 is only available on PC and Nintendo Switch 1 and 2, meaning players on Xbox and PlayStation might have to wait a bit longer. The first Hades took about a year to be released on Xbox and PlayStation consoles, so a similar timeframe for the sequel wouldn’t be unexpected.
