Bitstamp Next: Final Batch of Mt. Gox Payouts To Commence—Here’s When

As a seasoned financial analyst and someone who has closely followed the cryptocurrency market for over a decade, I find this latest development in the Mt. Gox saga to be a significant milestone. Having witnessed firsthand the devastating impact of the 2014 collapse on thousands of investors, it’s heartening to see that they are finally receiving some form of restitution.

After the latest distribution by Kraken exchange, Mt. Gox creditors are now set to receive the final installment of the funds they have been patiently waiting for.

This morning, I came across the news that Bitstamp, a well-known digital currency exchange, intends to dispense the upcoming allotment of Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, and Ethereum to those affected by recent events.

The Payout Process Continues

Bitstamp, one of the earliest players in the cryptocurrency trading market, announced its plans to distribute digital assets to the creditors of the collapsed Mt. Gox exchange in the near future.

As a financial analyst, I can tell you that on Wednesday, I received confirmation from the Mt. Gox trustees about the transfer of substantial quantities of Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, and Ethereum to Bitstamp. Starting on Thursday, July 25, eligible Bitstamp account holders will begin receiving these cryptocurrencies.

The distribution signifies a significant milestone in the resolution process initiated after the 2014 fall of Mt. Gox, resulting in thousands of customers being unable to access their tokens. Now, these affected users stand to receive compensation in the form of vast quantities of digital assets.

Bitstamp has assured us that they will handle the funds prudently, prioritizing safety and organization. In a recent social media update, the platform emphasized their diligent approach to examining every transfer for potential security risks. The statement read:

Delighted to share the news that we’ve obtained the Mt. Gox assets. Our team is actively processing their distribution to Bitstamp users who were creditors at Mt. Gox. Please note that this procedure may take approximately one week due to necessary security checks. We’ll keep you updated on the transfer status once completed. Appreciate your understanding and confidence.

The discussion included a customized distribution strategy specifically for UK residents, assuring them of regular updates and timely receipt of their possessions.

Update On The Recent Distribution

During this time, Kraken seems to have dispersed the cryptocurrencies obtained from Mt. Gox to the respective creditors.

“@krakenfx effectively returned Bitcoins and Bitcoin Cash from the defunct @mtgox platform to its creditors.”

For almost ten years, Kraken has had the honor and responsibility, appointed by the Trustee, to conduct the investigation and recover clients’ funds.

Prior to the dissemination of the funds, there were predictions that several creditors would withdraw the distributed amount, potentially causing a downturn in the crypto market, including Bitcoin. Surprisingly, however, data indicates that these creditors have chosen to keep the funds instead of selling them.

CryptoQuant CEO Ki Young Ju particularly reported:

Approximately 4 hours ago, Mt. Gox creditors received their Bitcoin allocations. Since then, there haven’t been noticeable increases in Kraken’s hourly spot trading volumes or Bitcoin withdrawals.

Ju expressed optimism, remarking, “This appears to be good news,” but added the caution, “We must be patient and wait for the Asian time zone’s update.”

Complementing this optimistic viewpoint, a cryptocurrency analyst at CryptoQuant has noted a substantial rise in Bitcoin withdrawals from Kraken post-payout. This trend implies that creditors are not disposing of their Bitcoins and instead plan to keep them, transferring them from the exchange to cold wallets for safekeeping.
