Ripple CTO Flags Coinbase Scam on X: Details

As a seasoned crypto investor with over a decade of experience navigating the volatile digital currency market, I can confidently say that vigilance is not just a buzzword but a necessity. The recent incident involving Ripple CTO David Schwartz and the Coinbase scam on Twitter serves as a stark reminder of the ever-present danger lurking in the shadows.

David Schwartz, Ripple‘s Chief Technology Officer, has spoken out against scammers who are trying to mislead users on social media, particularly focusing on instances observed on X (previously known as Twitter). In a recent discussion on this platform where Schwartz participated, Coinbase scams were identified. These scams posted false links.

I initiated a conversation when I voiced worries about the taker fees for experienced traders on Coinbase as an investor in digital currencies. This remark caught the eye of Ripple’s Chief Technology Officer, as well as Brian Armstrong, the CEO of Coinbase. In response to a misunderstanding regarding the taker fees displayed on the Coinbase website, they both clarified the situation.

Ripple CTO sounds alert

In the midst of all the conversation surrounding Coinbase and X, some unscrupulous individuals saw an opportunity to deceive others by posting false advice in the comments. These deceitful individuals proposed reaching out to Coinbase’s email support to resolve the issue but provided a fake link instead.

Cybercriminals are increasingly exploiting social media by deceiving users into clicking harmful links. These links often direct to phishing sites that aim to swipe sensitive data like login details and digital keys, which could lead to substantial monetary losses for the victims. In this instance, the deceptive links were disguised as authentic Coinbase customer service.

Genuine Coinbase websites will always have a coinbase.com address, but scam links usually finish with gmail.com instead.

In response to the perceived risk, Ripple’s Chief Technology Officer, David Schwartz, quickly marked those links as fraudulent, thereby warning the cryptocurrency community about the potential danger. With this action, David Schwartz underscored the importance of staying vigilant in the fast-paced world of cryptocurrencies.

As cryptocurrencies gain adoption and popularity, they become increasingly appealing targets for scammers. Thus safety measures are necessary; users must also be aware of common scam tactics and exercise caution when engaging online.
